pertussis?

I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with actually having

pertussis? I dunno if that's what I've got, but I've had this flu-like

thing for 3 weeks now. It started nasal, throat, and chest then

quickly moved to chest. I was coughing like crazy for 4 days or so,

now I'm just having coughing attacks throughout the day. I don't

struggle to breathe in, I struggle coughing out to the point of nearly

choking and then they end. I feel okay, other than being so tired from

coughing all the time and it always gets bad at night. I felt I was

getting over it but now it's back again. Cough medicine does seem to

help some, but 's maxair inhaler isn't doing much to help her

or me.

My girls have also all had coughing stuff, but they are pretty much

over it, Jess is a little worse. They were all immunized against it

but the youngest, and she seems to cough very little.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking of going to doc, I just hate to if it is

pertussis and be around all the elderly people and possibly spread it.

I haven't heard of any outbreaks here but I haven't been sick like

this with congestion in 20 yrs, even through my smoking years!

Thanks, Janet. I will call the doc tomorrow.

I talked to my mother about it tonight, a R.N. I told her I wondered

if I have pertussis her response was, " There's no way, you had the DPT

shot when you were little. " I'm gonna be 34 in May. Lol. I told her

that didn't mean a thing when 40% of those who contract pertussis are

vaccinated and that adults hold little immunity against it.

I was vacinated as a little kid, but my doc says you can still get the disease

you just won't die from it. I'm not sure if he's right , but he went to school

for 8 years and I only went for 3 years of college. Hope this helps.
