I am suspicious that you may have an adrenal insufficiency. I

recommend that you see an osteopath or environmental doctor (I see

one, best money I ever spent on a doc). Feel free to email me.

Your doctor is a moron. You don't "contract" Asthma, and you certaining don't get it from a tissue! Also, Advair is a med you take daily as a preventative, so the fact you used only 3 disks in 6 months tells me you are using it as a rescue med which is absolutely WRONG. Your misuse is probably why you got hives. Please educate yourself and find a doctor who is also. The ignorance of your current doctor is apalling. And no, from what you describe you don't have asthma. Bronchitis perhaps, but not asthma.

New...need help...bad advair reaction?

Hi everyone!I contracted asthma (or so my doctor told me...I'm still unsure) ayear ago when I picked up a piece of kleenex to blow my nose. I wasdriving at the time, and I breathed in deep, and when I did severalparticles came out of the kleenex and went down my throat and into mylungs. I had such a coughing fit that tears were streaming down myface as I tried to watch the road. Within minutes I had mucus in mybronchial tubes and my lungs which I kept coughing up for the nextthree days. After that, I would have episodes of coughing up mucussporadically, for no obvious reason. Also, my chest would feel heavyduring these episodes, like someone was standing on it.I thought the condition would go away on its own, but it didn't. Fivemonths later I was still having trouble with it so I went to mydoctor. He asked me if anyone in my family had asthma. My niecedoes. Her father smoked around her when she was a baby. She is theonly one in the family who has the disease. I told the doctor about the episodes I was having and he told me thatI have asthma. He gave me two Advair disks from his "samples"cupboard and sent me on my way.I took the first disk and finished all the medication. About a weekor so into the medication, I got hives. We were on the first day ofour vacation, and I thought it was caused by something I ate. But,the hives continued each day.By the end of our vacation, nearly two weeks later, the hives taperedoff. I decided not to use the other disk, but a month after returninghome I had another episode and so I used the other disk from thedoctor. I broke out in hives again, and this time my hands got a bad, itchy rash on them. The rash lasted for more than a month and itchedwith a firey, intense itching that is hard to describe. The rash waslittle red dots, and some of them looked like water blisters. It wasvery much like foot fungus, if anyone here knows what that is like.I had no clue where the hand rash came from, and finally used anantifungal on it. Three days later it was gone. The following month (January 2004) I got sick. Three days later Irecovered, but a couple days later I was sick again, this time worse. A week later I was better, and a week after that I was sick again, this time my bronchial tubes and lungs were affected first. I went tomy doctor and he said I had a bronchial infection. He gave me anantibiotic and another Advair. I again finished the entire Advairdisk, which would have been about mid February.Between the last Advair I took in November and the one I finished inFebruary, I continued to break out in hives and have a horrible itchyrash. The hives and rash would appear anywhere on my body and woulditch for about a half hour. Then it would subside until the next"hives" episode. I had episodes everyday, most often in the morningand at night, but it could occur at anytime.I recovered from the bronchial infection, but I got so tired ofitching that I went to my doctor again a couple of weeks ago. He saidhe had no clue what was causing the hives and rash but that I wasobviiously allergic to something. He gave me allegra for the hivesfrom his samples and it does help, but I have to take one about everyother day.I am absolutely miserable with this itching. I have been doing somereading on the web tonight and it looks like the Advair is probablythe cause of it. I haven't taken any more of the Advair since midFebruary, though I have suffered asthma attacks. I never had any problems with hives or itching before using Advair. Iused a total of three disks between 9/03 and 2/04. If it is theAdvair, how long might it take for this stuff to get out of my system?Or will I have itching and hives forever? Also, do my symptoms sound like asthma to all of you? I'm wonderingif whatever I breathed in from that kleenex caused some kind ofinfection or something. Yesterday I spent alot of time in an old barn with animals and straw, and in old log cabins that were musty inside. If anything would haveset off an asthma attack you'd think that would do it. But, it didn'thappen. Please, I really need some answers. Any help and advice or lightanyone can shed on this would be deeply appreciated.Thank you and I'm glad to have found this group!Kim

<<....You don't " contract " Asthma, and you certaining don't get it from

a tissue! >>

Inhaling parts of a tissue can present a problem in th elungs, that can

lead to breathing problems. It needs to be investigated, for it can

cause severe inflammation that needs to be treated.

Usually that is done with the same drugs as for severe asthma.
