Guest guest
Hi Mychael, You may be able to get Social Security Disability, depending on your general health. If your docs want you to only work PT, this seems to suggest that you probably would qualify for disability. I'd call Social Security, then your PCP. You can even apply for SSD over the phone these days, or go online and fill out the forms there. Good thing is that with SSD, you can work a little bit to supplement your check. I think that you can make $800 or less without jeopardizing your benefits. And, with SSD, you have a trial work period of 9 months, in which you can make any amount, if it's to help you slide back into working FT at some point in the future. I used my 9 month trial work period to get caught up financially, but did eventually get back to work FT. Back when I was on SSD, I worked PT at Disney, and back then I could only make $500 or less to keep SSD. I asked the scheduling supervisor to keep me under $500, and she kept me at $475-$490 each month. The money came in handy, as I needed it to add to my SSD check, but it also got me out of the house at least 16 hrs a week, and gave me a sense of satisfaction. So, ask your PCP if you might qualify, based on symptoms and illness, for SSD, or go online and check out the qualifications for going onto SSD with HIV/AIDS diagnosis. http://www.ssa.gov/ Click on "Do you qualify"...... Best of luck to you!!
