Psychiatrists make their bread and butter out of this -

" Its all in the head " .....So ?.......Hello ! It is stll a disease !!!

Its 'above the head' though for most lay people ....so called " sane / normal "

people including the majority of the 'lay' physician community who don't suffer

from these " in the head illnesses " which are no different than Diabetes and

other hormone disorders.

They are chemical insufficiency / imbalance states and other pathophysiologies.

Last few years I have opened up to accepting these illnesses as real and am

learning so much.

eg., Depression, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD both pediatric and adult, Anxiety

disorder, Paranoid personality disorder and the list goes on !

Illnesses like Diabetes have physical S/S which makes it easy to understand for

the physician as well as patient.

Mental illnesses unless you are psychotic do not enjoy the same status and

brushed away as " Its all in the head " by the " sane/so called normal " blessed

people ( should really count their blessings )

Unfortunately most mental illness at best presents with vague physical S/S which

are so hard to differentiate from a cause other than mental illness - such as

lazy, idiot, indifferent or doesn't care.....Nobody can drive sense into him

types !!

At any given time if a child or an adult is not performing at level commensurate

with his intelligence and talents - Please screen for the myriad of mental

illnesses that are so widely prevalent and we lay physicians are so ignorant of.

Yes it is in the head and it is a disease....get that into your head learned

doctor !!

p.s. May be the category of the so called psychosomatic illnesses should be

thrown out.

Because all mental illness is going to have physical effects - Hello !...isn't

brain and mind part of the human body ????

Did you know that in clinical depression, depression comes first .... " cause "

later.
