Guest guest
I have been on prednisone full timeĀ for over a year. At first they would just give me bursts of it periodically, but then they found that I needed to be on it full time. My lung function is just too low to go without it. When I try to taper I have a severe flare so they are just keeping me where I am. It is not too uncommon to develop type 2 diabetes from prednisone. It raises a persons blood sugar and if it is prolonged long enough, eventually it becomes diabetes. My endocrinologist has told me that if I can get off prednisone there is a slight chance that it will go away, but most likely I will have it the rest of my life.I think that orapred is similar to prednisone. Any oral corticosteroid can do it. That is why drs. hesitate to use it for a prolonged period. There ================================= I didn't know that this. This could be why I'm having sugar problems now. I ask my doc about having sugar problems and she just said few more tests but I can feel my head spinning whenever have any sugar, fruit or carbs like pasta or white bread. I wonder why they don't tell you when they're putting you on these now I ggotta deal with diabetes and there's nothing I can do about it cause it ain't much a choice diabetes or asthma attacks mine are somewhere around 30 a day without medication. Guest guest
I agree that it is frustrating that Drs. don't tell people all of the side effects. Especially serious ones that are fairly common. It does say on the prescription insert that prednisone raises sugar levels, but other than that I have found all of the information on my own. I thought it was bad enough having severe asthma, but now I have to be super careful becuase I have uncontrolled diabetes as well. I am hoping that one or both of these will start to get beter in the near future, but it is not looking very likely. =================================I didn't know that this.
