Just wanted to know if anyone has had their child on meds. and then

decided to take them off. My daughter is on Fluoxetine, Clonidine skin

patch, clonidine tablet & Zonegran. I know she needs zonegran for

seizures, and she is so hyper which is why we have her on clonidine.

But the clonidine just makes her so sleepy. I get so tired of the

Nurse calling me saying that my child is so sleepy it's as if she is

in a coma. I do not know what to do anymore. I have tried her with

different doses, and it either is too much or not enough. Her Neur.

will not put her on a stimulant drug, he says it will make her worse.

Looking into getting a second opinion. What about the GFCF diet?

Please help! Thanks in Advance!

a) Try Epsom salts baths

B) How old is your daughter? GFCF is more difficult for older

children, but if you can put her in charge of her own label reading,

have the whole family do some of it with her, and let her police

everyone on the diet, it may work. Otherwise, look at enzymes.

Read DeFelice's book first (Enzymes for Autism and other

Neurological Conditions)

Sherri,

My daughter, age 9, takes a high dose of Paxil in morning and before bed.

This has really reduced PICA and OCD behaviors.

She takes ritlain every four hours during the day for hyperactivity and it

works wonders. I have never seen one pill that can cause such a dramatic

change. We tried other ADD drugs like adderol with no result. Not every child

does well on Ritalin. You cannot know how your child will react until she tries

it. You will however be able to tell very quickly if her response is

positive or negetive. If it is negetive stop giving it to her.

I am amazed that your doctor has you give your daughter clonodine during the

day. My daughter takes clonodine (a sustained release version that only some

pharmacies can make up) at night to help her sleep. She had so many wake up

episodes at night no one was getting any rest. The clonodine is wonderful and

now she almost always sleeps beautifully. One time I accidentally gave her

the clonodine instead of the Paxil before school and her teacher called me to

tell me my daughter was fast asleep.

I hope this is helpful. I know Ritalin is a stimulant but that does not mean

each person will react from it in that way. There is so much media against

Ritalin which is unfortunate since it has helped so many people who really need

it.
