Guest guest
June wrote.. <<i pay about 20 dollars for 3 months prescriptions and that covers all the medications I have to take>> I get a disability check for $ 1.100.- a month and my medication cost me a $800.- a month, that with insurance that monthly cost me $ 550.- from which the first $ 5.000.- I have to pay myself, after that they cover 80%.At my age, 59, I am to call myself lucky to get any insurance at all with existing health problems. My broken hip was $ 49.000.- and thank goodness my insurance paid well on that. What I had put away for my daughters wedding ,my grandson's education is all getting gobbled up now, so is the rainy day fund, guess my rainy day has come. June, health insurance is a biggie in this presidential election coming up, something has to change ! It's ridiculous that we have to get medication from Canada to get a price break. I do live 2 hours from Canada and do take advantage of it,but still the meds I am on , are my lifesaver, nothing frivolous about them for I have a special heart condition and without them I would be dead. Most everything else one needs meds for, I am able to do myself with herbals, have studied that all my life and do it with my Doc's supervision. I've immigrated once in my life, otherwise I seriously would be thinking about moving to Canada.... C-M
Guest guest
Some ppl are claiming there is a cure in some cases when the asthma is due to a bacterial infection, usually either chlamydia pneumoniae or mycoplasma pneumoniae. See www.asthmastory.com for further info but a point of warning beware of Jim who runs it, he kicked me off the message board and won't communicate with me as to what I did to deserve this! His high-handed attitude, ie not allowing anyone to express disagreement with him, is a shame and most offputting, but still I think there is some information which might be of interest in his and other ppl's experiences on there. Someone on an asthma message board told me that this atypical pneumonia type asthma could cause the lungs to become extra sensitive as in my case (although I am not diagnosed as asthmatic) so she thought I could have this type of asthma, anyway I think it helps to keep an open-mind on these things. I've been following the posts on this site and it has made me feel better to realise that I'm not the only person having to deal with this. In fact some of you sound far worse than I am, it's stopped me feeling sorry for myself! The thing that shocks me most is those of you in the USA talking about not being able to go to hospital. I am so lucky , Britain has many problems but the great thing about this country is the National Health Service. Today I went to see my doctor and he has referred me to an asthma specialist at hospital. He thinks I should be seen within 2 weeks and of course I don't have to pay for that. i pay about 20 dollars for 3 months prescriptions and that covers all the medications I have to take. I feel so sorry for those people having to worry about the cost of treatment. The US is a great country but it seems awful to worry about getting medical treatment because you can't afford it. Oh for the day when they can actually cure asthma instead of just controlling it. Best wishes to everyone out there - June
