Hi. My name is Jenn and I'm new to this group. I was diagnosed and

being Hypothyroid back in July and my Dr. had put me on Synthroid -

0.05 mg. After about 2 months I asked to be taken off of it because

my moods and temperment were terrible... I was a total B**** and

extremely moody. I had my labs done again and recently went back in

to see my Dr. and let's just say he's NOT my Dr. anymore!! I have

never been so pissed off at someone as long as I can remember. I left

his office so agitated that I was shaking!

These were my lab results....

FT3 - 3.9 pg/mL 2.4 - 6.8

FT4 - 0.7ng/dL 0.4 - 1.4

TSH - 3.02uIU/ML 0.44 - 4.37

First my appointment was at 2:45, at 3:15 the nurse finally called me

back. She said Dr. would be in shortly…I told her my appt

wasn't with him it was with the NP. She said your not on her schedule,

your on his. I figure ok, no big deal as long as I'm seeing someone

because I feel terrible!

He finally comes sauntering in at 3:40 and asks what are we seeing you

for today. I sat there thinking you've got to be kidding… apparently

you didn't see my lab results. He then handed me a copy of the lab

results, which I told him I already had. He just looked at me and

asked, what do you mean you already have a copy. His polite tone went

to one of irritation. I told him that I had requested a copy be mailed

to me when the results were in. He then told me that my results were

normal and he would keep me on the same dose of synthroid that I was

currently taking. I then told him I wasn't taking anything…which

being my Dr. he should have known I wasn't taking it anymore. He then

said that since my results were normal I didn't need any meds. He

then rolled and sat back against the wall with his arms crossed, just

staring at me. I was beginning to get really agitated at this point.

I told him I had done some research online and from talking with some

of my family members that are also hypo and told him that the current

chart for FT3 and FT4 show me being very low and my TSH as being High.

He told me I was incorrect. I asked him about cortisol testing,

adrenal testing & adrenal failure, my ferritin (?sp) levels and about

certain foods having an effect on my thyroid and the medications I

would take, he told me all of that was irrevelant. I asked him about

the TWENTY FIVE symptoms I have which I took a copy of the check list

with me. (checklist was from about.com) I went to hand him the

checklist, he waved his hand telling me no he didn't need to see it

and told me that was all irrelevant also. According to my lab results

there was nothing wrong with me.

He said if I'd like to take another medication instead of Synthroid he

would prescribe something for me (even though he'd already told me

there was nothing wrong with me he still wanted to medicate me) I told

him that I had done some research on the different medications and

other than synthroid which was a synthetic T4 only medication I was

interested in the Armour which treated both T3 and T4 and was natural.

I told him that several of my family members are on Armour and doing

great. He then told me that if I wanted Armour I could take my

business elsewhere. I asked him why is that, he told me that he

doesn't use armour, it's an old medication and hard to adjust levels

and test for. He uses Sythroid as a top choice and I then told him,

that I understood why, I used to work for a Dr.'s office and if they

use one pharmaceutical company over another they get certain perks

from that company. I told him that if he was a good Dr. he would be

treating ME the patient and would be concerned about what I'm putting

into my body and how it's making ME feel. I told him if he was a good

Dr. he wouldn't just be looking at my lab results but he would also

take into consideration the TWENTY FIVE symptoms that I have and the

fact that I have NINE family members who are also hypo. He hasn't

said a word since sitting back against the wall. I stood up told him

the appt was over and I would be taking my business elsewhere. I

walked out and slammed the door so hard that either something in the

exam room next to mine fell off the wall or someone dropped something.

I then went up to patient accounts and told them I wanted my copay

back because I was not paying $20 for a 5 minute visit to be told by

the Dr. that he would not treat me.

I had calmed down but since typing this I'm irritated again!!!!! I'm

back at square one and feel like the last 5 months have been a

complete waste of time, energy that I don't have and money.

I've called my primary to see if she can treat me and if she can't I

have found another Dr. that is on my insurance Blevin, that I

have asked if she can do a referral to. I have called the Texas

Medical Board and filed a complaint and I also called my insurance

company and filed a complaint with them. I'm also waiting for the

hospital administrator to call me back about my refund.

Whatever you do DO NOT go to Dr. with North Austin Medical

Center. This is my opinion but he's a complete ASS and doesn't know

what he's doing.

You go girl! Another one I would like in the Dr.'s office with me.

I can't believe there are Dr's out there that will not treat someone

when they are sick. Well, I can believe, I have one that is sort of like

that.

But this Dr. would down right rude. He does not deserve to be in the

medical field.

Sorry you went through that, but I understand there are other Dr's in

the Austin area that can help.

I got this from an earlier post from Sue:
