I need to know what kind of test there are that can show stomach

problem causes in my son. He is always constipated. We just suffered

through an hour of him crying in pain because his BM was too big to

push out. It breaks my heart to see him hurt that bad. I wanted to

get him tested for yeast overgrowth but was told that was unlikely

the cause. Even though he had alot of antibiotics his second year of

life. He had an ear infection every month to month and a half. If

anyone can name a few tests that may show what is causing this I

would appreciate it.

Mainstream doctors don't really " believe in " yeast problems. It's hard

to get their attention.

In the meantime, as an emergency measure, you can give him " stool

softeners " that are relatively inexpensive and can be bought at

pharmacies or grocery stores. Ask the pharmacist for the gentlest,

safest one. This is NOT a permanent fix for the problem.

Doctors tend to ignore problems of this sort. They say it's not that

bad, or they blame the patient for " being neurotic. " Phooey.

One cause of chronic constipation is celiac disease. It's a problem

with the small intestine, not the stomach. There are blood tests to

indicate whether it might be the problem. You can find zillions of web

pages on the subject " celiac disease " if you search at www.google.com

He sounds like he " might " fit the pattern of children with celiac

disease, so it would be worthwhile discussing it with is doctor. On

the other hand, many or most doctors don't " believe in " celiac disease.

It requires a gluten free diet forever to treat, and doctors don't

like conditions that are chronic. They like conditions that they can

" cure. "

There is nothing wrong with doctor-shopping if yours seems particularly

thick-headed.
