" I'm not going to let this damned disease rule my life! "

You may not, but it's going to be a painful life. Imagine that when

your blood sugar is high, it's as if you had thick heavy syrup in

your veins....and you have veins all over your body.....and some of

them, like the ones in your eyes, are very tiny. So when you have

all this thick, heavy syrup in them...it starts to irritate them,

then plug them and eventually they can break...and since they are

very tiny, when they break, you don't feel it....but is starts to

bleed little by little. They can repair it with laser but if the

blood sugar remains high, it can break and start bleeding again.

Those are the diabetics that go blind. Diabetes can also affect the

kidneys, heart, cause neuropathy (burning pain, numbness, tinggling)

because it affects the nerves, etc. I'm sure you know all about it.

Of course, things like that don't happen overnight.....they happen

when your blood sugar is high for a long time.

You may not realize how much damage is ocurring because diabetics get

used to having high blood sugar....and they feel okay. Both my

parents are diabetic. When my mother found out she was a diabetic,

she went into the ER walking and talking and when they checked her

blood sugar it was 1034.....that's enough to put someone in a

comma....so why wasn't she? Because she must have been a diabetic

for a long time....probably years...and her blood sugar went up to

200 and her body said....well, I guess this is the way it's going to

be from now on....and it got used to it.....and it kept

increasing.....but eventually, her body couldn't tolerate any more.

Plus....my mother drank daily....and alcohol LOWERS blood sugar so

that helped her. That is NOT to say that everybody should drink to

keep their blood sugar down....LOL....I can just see it....Nursey

told me to drink so I could control my blood sugar.....LOL

You have 3 things that you can use to control your

diabetes....Diet...Exercise....Medication

It sounds like you've got the first two....so my guess is that the

problem is with your meds.....and if you tell me that you're on a

sliding scale....that will be the biggest problem....a sliding scale

gives you the insulin AFTER the fact. Insulin is supposed to be

PREVENTIVE.....the sliding scale says if the blood sugar is 300 you

give this many units.....but by the time the blood sugar gets to 300,

the damage has already occurred.

" 180 it's not as 'tight' as it should be " .

Actually....180 is not tight AT ALL.

Oh pleeease let me help you! This is a wonderful opportunity for me

to be able to show off.....LOL

Okay....I'm kidding....but I would be happy to help you control it.

I'm used to people saying no....let's face it, it's a boring

subject.....so if you say, " I'm fine the way I am " ....I'll understand

and won't be offended....but before you say no...let me just say

that.....I have NEVER starved anybody, I don't expect perfection,

doing some simple things can make a big difference, and I can teach

you how to cheat.

and I'm free....LOL

> I was diagnosed in 2000 with Type 2. Since then I've shed over

22kg (more than 45lbs). I have never, EVER been able to get my bg's

in the " normal " range despite diet, exercise, meds, insulin. I'm

happy if I can keep my #'s under 180. I know it's not as 'tight' as

it should be but I'm not going to let this damned disease rule my

life! I control what I put in my mouth but my body doesn't behave

when it comes to bg's!
