Guest guest Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Hello Ruth, I would like to recommend my book Modern Day Macrobiotics. I wrote primarily for people starting macrobiotics and I hope you will find everything you need, including recipes. Once you have read the book you are welcome to let me know how you are getting on by email and I will give you further help if you need it. I think still has some copies. Best wishes, Simon Simon G. Brown 22 Belsize Square London NW3 4HT +44 (0) 20 7431 9897 simon@... http://www.chienergy.co.uk/ Hello, I am very new to this and was wondering if anyone had any book suggestions, cookbooks or informational books, for someone just starting to try and make these changes. Thanks, Ruth. Quote
Guest guest Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Hi Ruth! first, i would suggest making changes slowly, if there is no impending health crisis. start working whole grains into every meal...eat more fresh produce, try a seaweed dish. read the books, but don't get bogged down by them. some of the concepts can be confusing and hard to grasp (i'm still working on it) but don't let that disuade you. i don't think of macrobiotics as an all or nothing approach, and that keeps me sane. Simon's book is a very good introduction. Bear in mind that the recipes are all metric, so you may want to hold off for the American edition. I have learned that you can just type in the conversion you want in google and it does the math for you. (ex: type 10 grams to ounces in the google search box and it will give you the answer). but then you still have to weigh stuff to get the ounces. My favorite books are: Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics, Real Food Daily Cookbook, Mostly Macrobiotic, Home Kitchen and Cooks. Pirello also has a website: http://www.christinacooks.com/, a PBS tv show, and an e-newsletter that you can sign up for. Don't be afraid to ask lot's of questions. Some on this group are very knowledgeable, and some are total newbies. Everyone is very nice! sarahRuth wrote: Hello, I am very new to this and was wondering if anyone had any book suggestions, cookbooks or informational books, for someone just starting to try and make these changes.
