Guest guest Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 Hi : Treatment of anal itching is to shower gently without directly rubbing or irritating the skin and to clean and pat dry the anus thoroughly. Use of moist pads (like tucks) rather than toilet paper after bowel movements can be helpful. Local application of cortisone cream may also reduce inflammation and itching, though prolonged use of cortisone may be damaging to the skin. If anal itching is prolonged, a physician should be consulted and a search made for the cause. Possible causes: hemorrhoids, yeast infection, skin tag, lichen planus, pin worms. My guess......in case you ask my guess....would be hemmorrhoids or yeast infection. If it is a yeast infection you can use over the counter Monistat but the problem is that you probably have it in your intestines. > If you get queasy talking about private body parts and functions, stop now. > > Keep in mind, basically any malady that occurs while I'm on tx is > considered a side effect. ;-) Maybe it's not. Guest guest Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 Can I add something here. I diarrhea alot both during this treatment and the last one. I talked to the doctor about it, it is not severe. Just have some very liquid stools. Had that itchy bottom. I started keeping plain old baby wipes with aloe in the bathroom.Cheap and you can even get the flushable type. Found that worked 100 percent. No more itchy bottom, and found gold bond powder to help after bathes too. Guest guest Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 How about getting rid of the diarrhea instead.....it's cheaper than buying the wipes.....LOL..... Hepatologists say it's okay to use over-the-counter meds like Immodium. Of course, you need to check with your doctor to make sure it's ok with him. Silvia Quote

Guest guest Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 Hee Hee Actually you wouldn't believe it, but I am a nurse of 25 plus years, yet hate to take medicine. Yeah, take what my doctor prescribes for me. But OTC drugs have little allure for me. I try to take care of problems like that with nutruition. Adjusting diet, (cutting back on milk products in case it is the old lactose intolence thing.LOL). And so forth. Also had a little Aunt that lived to be 99 years,9 months and 24 days. She would tell me to drink rice water to stop loose stools. Yeah rice water. You take and prepare rice with lots of water. Drain the water from the rice. You can use the rice in another meal. But drink the rice water. And it works by gum. She was quite the gal. But alot of the stuff that she taught me, I use even today. Like did you know that if you dry peach tree leaves, and make a tea with them. They have a calming effect. Yeah. She and I would go into the woods and she would point out all the stuff you can use for medicines, wild things to eat. Like wild grapes. You can eat the tubers from cattails, taste like potatoes. There is a weed that grows in my yard, pesky stuff. But it is called curly doke. You can make it like you would spinach and is high in B vits. Clever old gal. Course when I got older and went to nursing school I checked out all that she taught me. Sure enough she was right. Hmmm guess the old gal did teach me something. So I take care of problems like that the natural way. Love Janet Bhprice425@... wrote: How about getting rid of the diarrhea instead.....it's cheaper than buying the wipes.....LOL..... Guest guest Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Hey, it's me again, the guy with the itchy bum. I think I'll try the " Tucks " idea. My hep doc diagnosed hemhorroids without even looking. Wow, she's good. Anyway, she suggested an over the counter product, which I tried, and it makes it MUCH more itchy for about an hour. Drives me crazy. Main symptom is itchiness, not pain or burning. I see my GP in about 3 weeks, so if I can wait until then... Thanks for the help, > ha! you forgot the clove in the earache oil.....LOL > Silvia > > > Quote

Guest guest Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Hi , I've only just started posting to alt.support.hepatitis-c, so you can get back at me there, but couldn't you have let your wife examine the affected area when the problem first appeared? I'm not trying to be offensive - it's what I would have done with my hubby. You can put me on your ignore list now! > > ha! you forgot the clove in the earache oil.....LOL > > Silvia > > > > > > Quote

Guest guest Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 I'm not offended! What would she be looking for though? Do you think she'd be able to tell the difference between a hemorrhoid (esp. if it's internal) and yeast? Thanks , > Hi , > > I've only just started posting to alt.support.hepatitis-c, so you can > get back at me there, but couldn't you have let your wife examine the > affected area when the problem first appeared? Guest guest Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Hi , I think she'd be able to tell the difference between the inflammation caused by yeast and whatever else you have going on down there. I mean, a rash is pretty obvious. Even internal hemorrhoids should be obvious with a digital exam - they'd have to be close to the anal sphincter to trigger the itching, right? It could also be a cyst, or a skin tag, or several other things, but at least she'd be able to help you, or maybe even help herself by participating in your care. That's the hardest part for me right now, not feeling able to participate - he just shuts down and doesn't want to talk about it. Anyway, I'm glad you didn't take offense! Take care, and good luck! > > > > ha! you forgot the clove in the earache oil.....LOL > > > > Silvia > > > > > > > > > > > > Quote

PPS Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions. Quote
