Second FNA today

Just back from the FNA and OUCH!!! This one was not like the last one at

all. But I do feel if they could get samples at all they did it this time.

I could see it being done on the Ultrasound machine, one needle probe went

right to the center of it. He had a cystologist there from the pathology

department checking each slide as he made them as the needle came out. Only

one of five needle/probes wasn't good enough. I don't know how many slides

were made from each probe.

He did warn me that there is still a high % of non-diagnositic on second

FNA, so even though the slides right now look good enough, they at further

study may come back as " not enough cells " like my first FNA. But he

definately got deeper and used more needles then the first go round.

My neck is swollen and very sore this time too. I was very dizzy upon get

up from the table also, that didn't happen last time.

My doctor should have the results in 2 - 3 days. If they have to dye any

cells it takes 3 days, if not then 2 days.

For the " newbies " the first one was done at my old endo's office, this one was

done in a hospital by the Radiologist guided by Ultrasound, with the pathology

department

rep in attendance - that is what I highly recommend for any doing one in the

future.

Definately a difference in how it was done. This time I could feel that they

went deeper and

did more passes then before. Hopefully, it will lay to rest any questions on

this nodule.

Oh the tech who was handling the Ultrasound, came in and checked it before the

procedure

started - I " chatted " with her a bit - the size is now between 1.2 and 1.3 -

still doing it's slow

growth bit.

I wonder if they used a bigger needle? I've had two

done, and neither were

that bad. I hate the whole idea, though. It's a scary thing,

having them stick a

needle in your neck.

I am glad that it's all over for you, though.

I am waiting for your labs, and what your new endo says on the 16th.

I am supposed to go into Dr. P's on Thursday, but am thinking about

cancelling it.

He wrote some stuff on the labs that he sent, but can't read

them.

Still searching for parathyroid stuff, just don't know where to

look????

Please keep me up to date on this new endo. As you all know, I need

one!

They reschedule, I now go on the 18th at 2:30. She had a conflict. It

would be cutting it close anyway on getting the FNA results.

So I rather have all the results in and her have time to review

everything. The results of the FNA may not even be done by Friday then

it has to be written up, the pathologist sign off, get to her office,

Monday am would be cutting it very close. So I am fine with the new

Wednesday appt.

On the parathyroid stuff - I tried once to find stuff for another

friend and had trouble finding anything other then the most general

info -

mostly hyperparathyroid and then the only solution is surgery. But

your numbers had to be way off - excess calcium mostly if I remember

right.
