Guest guest
anyone: What book or books do you think would be good to give someone who is new to thyroid disorders? I have a family member who was recently diagnosed with hypo and wanted to give them a book on the subject. Thanks, M. J.
Guest guest
The Thyroid Solution by Ridha Arem, Living Well With Hypothyroidism by Shomon, and Thyroid Power by and Karilee Shames. Probably the Shomon book has the most practical information."M. J." wrote: anyone: What book or books do you think would be good to give someone who is new to thyroid disorders? Guest guest
I think Broda O. " Hypothyroidism, The unsuspected Illness " is very good. It goes into how hypothyroidism changes who you are and affects your relationships, weight, and personality. No other books seem to go into this much. It has details on many of the symptoms. I found it a relief because I learned that some many of the changes I was going through and didn't understand were thyroid related. He also has a good section on loosing weight. Another really excellent book is Dr. G. Young's " Thyroid, Guardian of Health. " This book covers information that is not in other books that is helpful to understanding what is happening to you and how to adjust your treatment. It tells you how much thyroid a healthy thryoid makes so you know how high you can safely go on replacement. It covers bone loss and how Armour prevents it and many other topics that your doctor will never tell you and probably doesn't know. This book is put out by Trafford Publishing in Canada The last book I would recommend is Shammon's " Living Well With Hypothryoidism. " It is a nuts and bolts book that covers test ranges and much of the basic treatment info and alternative therapies that are helpful. You can easily get this book at most libraries, so it is easy to get without money. Tish
