Guest guest
I asked Andy Cutler personally on this one and he said that if you follow HIS protocol, there should be no problem with doing the ALA only. The only caution is if there are amalgams in the mouth. There is nothing "proven" to remove mercury from the brain (with the exception of one drug that is not approved, BAL), only from the body. This is highly debated by many as you will read. So because there are so many opinions on this and not a whole lot of proof, you still have to research it for yourself. JaneMama to ASD (7) and NT (4) - Maybe NT, but big time gut and sensory issues, although making a lot of improvement!

Guest guest
ALA also prohibits copper from leaving the body to a point. If you have a high copper level you should stay away from ALA in the beginning and use something like DMSA then later on add ALA. Care to comment further on any of your experiences? We are doing Andy's ALA only protocol for a child who is 10 and "almost there". We live in a rural area and have to do it on our own, no DAN docs here. Answer offlist if you want to. I think ALA is a good way, but may take some time. Since your child is "almost there" the ALA may be a good one to stick to. is also "almost there" and I couldn't really tell you any one way of chelation that did it. I think it was more of the combination of things. He is GFCF (4 years) and was SCD for a time. I give him as many organic foods as I can and stay away from anything artificial. I also have a fragrance free household and don't use chemicals around the house. I still give him the homeopathic drops to help his body detox the everyday stuff in addition to chelating. You may want to look into the Longevity Plus Calcium EDTA. They have an oral form and also a bath form. I use the bath form for both of my kids along with the Epsom Salts. The website is www.longevityplus.net. I don't think Andy is too fond of the EDTA, but it has been working for us and a lot of other people that I know. Again, another thing to do your own homework about! I can tell you this, even when I was living around many good doctors to choose from (AZ), I still found myself just taking some of what each of them said and came to my own conclusions. Guest guest
Thanks Rose, I've never heard that one before - just the warning about copper and not to use ALA if there has been recent exposure. Does this mean that he/she thinks all the metals should be out of the body before you start working on the brain? Seems like everyone has a different idea about this stuff and I learn something new every day. Our DAN doctor says if the other metals have not come out yet this could cause the mercury to " float " around and re-injure. None of us want any more damage. Guest guest
, His hair copper was 11 out of a range of 9-30 and still in the green. He did not meet Andy's counting rules. I just read a post tonight on Autism-Mercury that seemed to be quoting Andy and notes for his new book that just said that it could mean anything (!) but the most common scenario is that hair copper is a true reading for people who do not meet the counting rules. We have not had any tests yet but will in October. I am seeing some small changes so far - nothing major but very nice. Thanks. Just a tick or so on the copper excretion. I'm familiar with DDI tests only. Maybe if you could give ? out of ? I'd get a better idea. Then again, if it's working and liver functioning is still very good and it's detoxing - if it isn't broke don't try to fix it. do you have labs done every 3 mths for all the liver functioning etc?? Guest guest
IMO - and only my opinion, I would say that's not overly high and that ALA would probably be ok. I've met a few kids that didn't meet the counting rules, however, once the parents began to chelate they realized there were on the right track. You just never know, I think alot of this stuff is more or less a guideline, not a roadmap.. Good luck and I hope that you see many more changes- for the better!!! Guest guest
, He may not have amalgams but do you? Did your mother etc. Metals can be cumulative because they do pass through the placenta. Also, did you have RhoGam shots? There are so many places they can accumulate metals. Guest guest
Oh yes! I do have amalgams, did not have RhoGam, and he had plenty of shots. I'm sure he has mercury and other metals, too. He has not had any recent exposure except for what we are all exposed to in the course of living.
