Guest guest
Dear Christie, I recall your saying that Sam attends a classroom with both hearing impaired and hearing children. Teddy will be starting preschool in February. One of the classrooms we are considering for him is a hearing impaired/deaf classroom using sign and oral speech. The teacher, however, has no experience in integrating a hearing child into the classroom. She feels deaf education is apart from special education, and is not appropriate for Teddy. Can you please tell me: Where Sam's school is located geographically? How long Sam has been attending an integrated hearing impaired/hearing classroom. What you see as the advantages of the classroom for Sam, particularly regarding appropriateness of curriculum. Does he use any type of augmentative communication, such as picture boards or a Dynavox in the classroom? And, any disadvantages or things you don't like about the class. I know I have a lot of questions ... thank you so much for responding. We are having a hard time finding an appropriate placement for Teddy. Hope you and Sam are well. Meg and Teddy, turning three in Feb., BPP, stands with support, climbs, uses a walker if encouraged, uses mostly sign and some pictures to communicate. __________________________________________________
