Guest guest
There are two or three milk substitutes in the health food section of the Kroger in our area: Rice Dream, Silk (a soy-based product), and a Kroger brand soy product. The soy-based products should be used with caution, as most kids who are sensitive to dairy are also sensitive to soy. Do you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you? They have the grapefuit seed extract and other products. We used Candex also to attack yeast. The acidpholis is a good thing for you to have bought, because while it doesn't attack the yeast, it is a " good bacteria " that our children usually have in smaller quantities than necessary to help digest their food. C. Casein free milk Someone from this group mentioned awhile back that Kroger carried a casein free milk. Who makes it and is it clearly labeled or do I need to really check it out? Another question. I tried GNC yesterday to see if they had grapefruit seed extract and they didn't so I asked what other vitamins my son could take to kill off yeast. She suggested acidopholis. I bought some, but when I got home I found an article (on line) that said that it won't get rid of yeast. Has anyone tried it and if so did it work for you? Guest guest
We use Silk soy but my daughter can tolerate soy. Not all kids can. There is also Pacific brands of rice milk and almond milk if that is more tolerable for your child are GF/CF. As far as yeast... Recently I've started my daughter on rice kefir I culture myself. I culture goat kefir for myself which has helped with my Fibromyalgia and exhaustion. Kefir is MAJOR probiotics (not just good bacteria but also good yeasts too). This has made a HUGE difference. Hannah had very thick thrush on her tongue (very white spots covering it entirely). However, when she had "stool cultures" it didn't show overgrowth. This isn't uncommon. After a week or 2 on the kefir her thrush is almost totally gone. Nystatin didn't even accomplish this! As far as acidophilus it will help with yeast. However, from what I understand the number of pills you would have to take to displace all the yeast is ridiculous and cost prohibitive. You would do better off with homemade yogurt and/or kefir.
