It's not clear to me whether or not you have had any portion of your thyroid

removed. If not, when did your hyper end and hypo begin? The shaking sure

seems to me to be hyper, yet I don't really know very much about you, so I

would certainly reserve judgment on that one.

I'm thinking that maybe it's time for surgery, for the doc, where the sun doesn't shine. Oh yes, then tell him he's just depressed. Now, take this antidepressant and a Viagra, and see where it gets ya.

I am currently considered to be subclinical hypothyroid. I am taking 25

mg of Unithroid and 2.5 grains of Armour. I am also taking Lexapro, which

I assume is needed, but who really knows.

I was put on birth control pills for years to supposedly help with, what

I now know, were early signs of thyroid issues. I was given weight pills

and water pills from many doctors without even once being checked for

thyroid problems. I had one doc give me hormone pills and other stuff

that I don't even remember the name of and basically ended up with worse

hormonal problems. I was told for years that my weight gain was from

" not pushing my plate far enough away " , my lack of a menstrual

cycle was from being overweight therefore causing me to excrete male

hormones from the excess fat and that I would never be able to have

children. (funny that was 80lbs lighter and before my pregnancy with my

daughter) I've been told my lack of energy was just my being

" lazy " and that everything else was just in my head.

Anyway, that's my story. I still wonder if my thyroid, adrenals, and

hormones are working properly. I have been dealing with diabetes

recently, so this is another thorn in my side. I do believe that Armour

is the best medication for one's thyroid and I love this group, as I have

learned more from all of you than from any doctor that I have ever seen.

Hi Terri

This is the exact way that the SSRI antidepressants affected me, and I think that I have taken every single one of them that were in existence to about a year or two ago, unless there is one I don't know about. I felt dead and lifeless, and my skin turned even more yellow. Knowing what I know now, and being properly treated with the Armour, I know that I was being kept undertreated, wrong treatment, for the last 11 yrs or so. At that time that I was having these "sluggish" depressed problems, I was on synthroid then levoxyl. The only one that actually worked for me was the TCAs, old ones, imipramine specifically, but it drove my blood pressure up too high, and ended up making me more than restless. This is very important---Have you had your thyroid antibodies tested to see if you have these. This determines the cause of your hypo, and they do wreak havoc on the thyroid. With Hashimoto's, you can bouts of hypo and hyper, before the antibodies actually destroy the gland, IF they ever do. Was this your diagnosis?

I have been having Anxiety attacks with all my thyroid stuff i have been through. They just started up this past december and i don't know why. My doctor gave me xanex to calm the attacks down, which helps, but then she gave me Lexipro and omg.....i was a completely different person. It made me dizzy, nausiated and just not act like myself. it was more like a depressant, and i am not depressed. needless to say the doctor got a call from me regarding all the symptoms and i threw those pills away, and just keep the xanex in case i need it....

Is this normal going through this, or is it all the stress and lack of sleep. I have noisy neighbors that keep me up, with there loud music and all. I had my thyroid removed last june. Any suggestions

It amazes me (STILL) the number of doctors that rely on the TSH test when for so many it is useless! I spent over 20 miserable years bacause of that test! I no longer allow my doctors to adjust my meds with it. I just recently started Hydrocortisone, too soon to tell if it is helping. I also had to quit the Atkins diet as I was really not feeling well and craving fruits and milk. I certainly am at an age where I don;t need low calcium problems, so that is the end of that. It started out losing weight but then just quit. For the last 2 months I was on it, I just was at a standstill and had lost ALL appetite for anything. Then the fruit & milk cravings started, so I guess I will just have to keep being FAT till my body gets ready to lose. That is the way it has been for quite a few years now. Wen I have a thyroid upswing, I can usually tell, and then diet and the weight will come off, but I haven;t had one of thoise in a while.. like 5-6 years at least. Not since the worst crash in my life about 5-6 years ago. Thank Heaven I feel better than THAT now!

Current treatment is as if I am Secondary Hypothyroid, since TSH is not

even close as an indicator of my thyroid status. I take:

Armour 90mg daily (45mg am and 45mg pm) Oink, oink!!

Unithroid 100mcg daily

Cortef 20+mg daily depending on stress level up to 40mg daily.

Prior to my diagnosis with a thyroid disorder, I had been prescribed

antidepressants (Pamelor at one time and Zoloft at another) and at one

point was prescribed Buspar for anxiety.

I am currently Hypothyroid, due to RAI. I am currently on Armour-2 grains, Metformin-500mg, and Triamterene-37.5 mg. I was prescribed the BP medicine, after taking Phentermine for 1 month, which was prescribed by my Dr. I immediately stopped taking it once by bp increased.

Sorry I have not had a chance to respond to the Roll Call --

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in l980 or 8l. I have been on a roller-coaster because of undertreatment but am doing much better at this time. I am currently taking 150 mcg of Synthroid, .625 Premarin, and 20 mg of Zocor for my extremely high cholosterol and triglycerides (even though I do watch my diet). I do take vitamins and supplements but these are my prescribed medications.

Before my Synthroid was increased I did take stomach medications for indigestion, tylonol for headaches but no longer need those. I had one doctor who wanted to prescribe antidepressants --saying I was depressed and that my TSH level was in normal range. I told her I was depressed because I was undermedicated and I hurt all over, was unable to concentrate, couldn't find my way home sometimes, etc but she could stick those antidepressants where the sun didn't shine--I would find another doctor who would listen to my problem and help me (which I did).

I may not be perfect but I can cook a meal without a checklist, find my way home and am no longer depressed. I go back for a followup on August 12th. I have a rash on my legs (around my ankles). Has anyone else had this and is it thyroid related.

My last visit in November showed that it had come down but I have been taking the Zocor prescribed by my cardiologist a few months before and don't know if it had any bearing on the drop. I am anxious to see what changes have been made since my last visit.

I seem to recall that the formula or coating was changed on the Synthroid tablets and I am thinking it could be the dye or filler that could be causing my problems. I will present this to my doctor on my next visit.
