So I just picked an email from the group and clicked. (there are a billion for me to catch up on!) So in my prenatal class one of the women asks if ultrasounds are safe. there is some evidence that they cause changes. If not needed best to avoid however for certain diagnostic things they are safer than other options they are done done so routinely these days and often repeatedly Any thoughts from the group? Also if I thought soy was safe to eat during pregnancy. As for me I've stayed away from soy I would think that soy in its traditional forms are fine and beenficial - miso, shoyu, tamari etc tempeh and small amounts of tofu. however not isolated and processed soy - which are also added to conventional foods as cheap extenders etc lately but she is worried about protein and calcium. check out the link to the article i posted yesterday on protein needs for calcium - sea veg, leafy greens and sesame seeds are tops. not dairy. She is also looking for a good prenatal supplement as she does not want to take "Materna". many people report gfreat results with spirulina in pregnancy esp if they are just transitioning to wholefoods etc If anyone has suggestions for her on pregnancy diet that would be great! She is strict vegetarian but thinking of going back to lacto-ovo for the pregnancy. She is also having a hard time taking in liquids and has only been managing 4 glasses of water a day (not due to pregnancy but she has never been able to drink a lot of fluids). if one eats a veg based diet their requirements for liquids are less. 4 glasses could be adequate. soups etc counts too. the whole over dose on water is a fallacy - if we are not eating dehydrating things we dont need as much - look how much liquid is on cooked brown rice for example Klara, I've met Patch . (So glad I picked this email to read!) ...and let me tell you what an amazing man! He (and the love of his life, along with his brother) has an amazing story to tell. I asked him about the movie (where Robin plays him) and he said the movie was very "Hollywood" so it was good to meet him in person and hear his version of how the story goes. He loves books, poetry, and recited so many pieces for memory. He was dressed in many colours, with socks that didn't match. However, his dress completely matched his personality. He then shared a home video of some of his work with children and I tell you it had me in tears. His message is one of love to all people.
