I remember my first day here; I had a patient with SOB waiting in a car outside the door as I approached. She had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis as it turned out. She had refused to see any MD at all until she heard I was here. She passed in November a week before the aniversary of the death of her daughter the previous year, poor lady, and I have yet to see a penny of payment for our many visits because her hospice care was supposed to be paid by a preferred provider program that I did not belong to. I really don't remember the money lost, but remember her perfectly, from the shape of her eyes to her blood tests, and her vitals and sats, to her radiographic imagry, and the effect of her illness on her huge extended family.
