If people are interested, I would

Bob, this sounds like a great plan to me! I

like the idea of a series of short presentations on each participant’s

path to where they are. I think such format would really be helpful, as there

is so much creativity out there, and we didn’t get to spend much time

exploring that in DC.

Re: IMP meeting

Dear ,

I would like to second your suggestion of an interim IMP meeting.

Though RJ and I are out of the insurance/billing business loop that

tends predominates the listserv, there are still a TON of issues

that we share in common. Many have solved these problems in unique

and translatable ways.

I would love to come to Colorado.

But I also really like '

suggestion of Las Vegas

as an even more accessible and a reasonably

inexpensive option.

I would be particularly interested in a meeting with a format

(similar to the IMP Convocation) but expanded to allow 15 minute

presentations each of the established practices who would briefly

highlight their practice journey and then in greater depth describe

one or two problems that they feel they have solved particularly

well (i.e. you could describe your physical workflow, Judy could

describe her chronic disease management registry, Brady could

describe including his local community, we could describe

our " alternative funding model " ).

The presentations could be grouped around single topics (EMR,

billing/insurance, finances, database/website, supplies, community,

etc.) Each topic might last a couple of hours. We could probably

cover six major areas over Sat am, Sat pm and Sun am and have enough

time to hear from all the IMP's in attendance.

Perhaps Gordon would introduce each topic by providing an overview

of the pitfalls/experience of others, any findings from the

literature. Then 2-4 practices would present their story. We would

close each topic with a moderated discussion on that single topic

for 20-30 minutes with the entire group.

I know this is a rather detailed description, but it is just a

brainstorming proposal for someone else to grapple with and improve.

It would take some coordination of the topics and presntation (...

Gordon?). I think you have a great idea!

I had come up with the idea of moving

from my current practice (a 7-provider clinic in a 12 clinic hospital-owned

system) to a minimal overhead practice (in the daylight basement of

my home) by the middle of 2007. I mentioned this to a physician at a

Pharma sponsored “CME” dinner at the AAFP meeting in Washington,

and he told me that it had been done before, and suggested that I Google

Gordon . I did, and was up half of the night.

Then, the next day, I was at a

presentation by Lou Spikol and one of the other attendees gave me a card

with the IMP website, plus the suggestion that I join this group.

I have started reading through the

archives of this listserv, and am up to June, 2003. I purchased an

EKG that will plug into a computer on E-bay for $239.00 last night, and have confirmed

that my city will let me have an office in my home. I have an appointment

with my accountant (who helped me start a solo but traditional practice 23

years ago) next week, to discuss going back into solo practice.

I am raring to go!

I would love to attend a meeting on

this. Las Vegas

would be ideal, since lodging and transportation are relatively inexpensive,

but I would go most anywhere. I hope that the leaders of this “movement”

can put something together soon. I would be happy to present on

EMRs, especially with respect to using them for quality improvement activities,

though my main goal would be to learn from those who have gone before me.

I wished I had learned of this group a couple

of weeks ago, before the AAFP meeting, so I could have met some of you there

Let’s keep this idea alive!

Welcome. Glad you made it here.

I was the one who gave you the card at the Lou Spikol talk.

There were several others there on this listserve that were at the

meeting and it was Eads that made the video that Lou was trying to

show us.

Guinn

Albuquerque

I had come up with the

idea of moving from my current practice (a 7-provider clinic in a 12

clinic hospital-owned system) to a minimal overhead practice (in

the daylight basement of my home) by the middle of 2007. I mentioned this

to a physician at a Pharma sponsored “CME” dinner at the AAFP meeting in

Washington, and he told me that it had been done before, and suggested

that I Google Gordon . I did, and was up half of the night.

Then, the next day, I was

at a presentation by Lou Spikol and one of the other attendees gave me a

card with the IMP website, plus the suggestion that I join this group.

I have started reading

through the archives of this listserv, and am up to June, 2003. I

purchased an EKG that will plug into a computer on E-bay for $239.00 last

night, and have confirmed that my city will let me have an office in my

home. I have an appointment with my accountant (who helped me start a solo

but traditional practice 23 years ago) next week, to discuss going back

into solo practice. I am raring to go!

I would love to attend a

meeting on this. Las Vegas

would be ideal, since lodging and transportation are relatively inexpensive,

but I would go most anywhere. I hope that the leaders of this “movement”

can put something together soon. I would be happy to present on

EMRs, especially with respect to using them for quality improvement activities,

though my main goal would be to learn from those who have gone before me.

I wished I had learned of this group a couple of weeks ago, before

the AAFP meeting, so I could have met some of you there

Let’s keep this idea

Bob, this sounds like a

great plan to me! I like the idea of a series of short presentations on

each participant’s path to where they are. I think such format would

really be helpful, as there is so much creativity out there, and we didn’t get

Re: IMP meeting

Dear ,

I would like to second your suggestion of an

interim IMP meeting.

Though RJ and I are out of the insurance/billing

business loop that

tends predominates the listserv, there are still a

TON of issues

that we share in common. Many have solved these

problems in unique

and translatable ways.

I would love to come to Colorado.

But I also really like '

suggestion of Las Vegas

as an even more accessible and a reasonably

inexpensive option.

I would be particularly interested in a meeting

with a format

(similar to the IMP Convocation) but expanded to

allow 15 minute

presentations each of the established practices

who would briefly

highlight their practice journey and then in

greater depth describe

one or two problems that they feel they have

solved particularly

well (i.e. you could describe your physical

workflow, Judy could

describe her chronic disease management registry,

Brady could

describe including his local community, we could

describe

our " alternative funding model " ).

The presentations could be grouped around single

topics (EMR,

billing/insurance, finances, database/website,

supplies, community,

etc.) Each topic might last a couple of hours. We

could probably

cover six major areas over Sat am, Sat pm and Sun

am and have enough

time to hear from all the IMP's in attendance.

Perhaps Gordon would introduce each topic by

providing an overview

of the pitfalls/experience of others, any findings

from the

literature. Then 2-4 practices would present their

story. We would

close each topic with a moderated discussion on

that single topic

for 20-30 minutes with the entire group.

I know this is a rather detailed description, but

it is just a

brainstorming proposal for someone else to grapple

with and improve.

It would take some coordination of the topics and

presntation (...

Gordon?). I think you have a great idea!

Hi Don, welcome to the group! I remember your name from the EMR listserve,

where you've put out some very technical and lots of very thoughtful posts.

Are you the person from ?rural Washington, who started his practice 25

years ago making evening farm housecalls and sewing up lacerations in

exchange for a heifer? (even if you're not, it makes a good story...). And

then parleyed your practice into a giant group now using Practice Partner?

I think I had the same staying-up-nights-going-through-the-archives reaction

when I found this listserv 18 months ago. Maybe we should a coin a term for

it, like 'discoverimpsomnia-mania'!

Thanks for the responses.

Bob’s idea is great, but I’d also like this

gathering to be a venue for other things. The brainstorming during our

Fri am meeting in DC was great. I’d like to have more time for that,

to flesh out our plans for presenting info @ the 2007 AAFP SA (maybe doing our

presentations in front of the group for practice and feedback) and the same for

submitting articles to FPM, and whatever else we come up with. Hopefully

we will have some of the articles already submitted, but I could see us doing

an article a month, a series on IMP stuff. I would think a long weekend (Fri

afternoon thru Sun am) would work.

I want to keep the cost down. I wish I had a huge

house to host a slumber party, but I’m not a surgeon ;). I’m

happy to work on organizing this here in Colorado,

but I’m not familiar w Vegas – never been there, but I understand

it’s cheap to get there and lodging is also inexpensive. If that’s

were we go, great, but someone else will need to help orchestrate it. If

we come to Colorado, I can look into staying in Breckenridge off season (late

May, early June usually), or in Colorado Springs/Woodland Park – either in

a hotel, B & B, even in homes if people are willing to (mine, my in-laws,

pts, etc), or a combo. I’d be willing to prepare meals for us, too.

Being in the mountains and all, we could call it the ‘IMP Summit’ ;)

My MIL has time share credits that I suspect we could use if we pitched in to cover the $100/week per unit maintanence fee. Most units have 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

Thanks for the responses.

Regarding the meeting. My wife and I also have some timeshare time

stored up that we might be able to get one or two two bedroom places.

The problem we have seen in the past is trying to get the same area

as other groups but if it is off peak and soon enough in advance it

might work out and we would be willing to use them for the cause. That

might help to accomodate 12-16 people depending on the units. Let me

know if there is any interest?

I would love to come to an IMP meeting. I'm not a member of the AAFP either. To put in my 2 cents, I really like the idea of Colorado (Love to ski as do all my kids, or hiking in the off season), hate Las Vegas except it's cheap, so there is that.

Thanks for the replies. This is the list of people

interested I have so far (please let me know if I missed your name):

Guinn (NGuinn555@...)

Brady (drbrady@...)

Gordon

Bob Forester (stlukesmodesto@...)

Wilterding (james.wilterding@...)

Annie Skaggs (askaggs@...)

Rene Milner (rlmilner@...)

– timeshare?

(mkcl6@...)

Lynette Iles (liles64@...)

– timeshare?

(DonS@...)

Marty Schulman (mschulman@...)

(jantonucci@...)

Cote (magnetdoctor@...)

For those of you offering timeshares – awesome!

It sounds like Vegas is not the deal/preference from your

posts, so I’m assuming were heading to Colorado (darn…). Let’s

discuss what time of year, and where. Here are some options I’d

suggest, pleas give me your feedback, and suggestions.

Times of Year:

1. Ski season (I’m thinking Jan-March timeframe)

2. ‘Off Season’ for ski resorts (late

April thru early June)

3. Summer (June –

Aug)

Locations:

1. Colorado

Springs

2. Ski resort like Summit Co with Breckenridge, Keystone,

Arapahoe Basin, Vail, Copper

3. Woodland

Park (90 minute drive

from Breckenridge and Keystone, 20 miles out of Col Springs in the mountains)

Pros/Cons:

1. Ski season - $$, but could stay in Woodland Park, and go day ski for 1 day (families

could go more), or maybe use some of the timeshares people have graciously

offered.

2. Off season – cheaper rates @ ski resorts,

Breck ($) and Vail ($$) have neat towns for putzing, shopping, eating, but no

skiing then. ‘mud season’ (snow melting)

3. Summer – great weather, kids out of school,

lots of activities to do

1. Colorado Springs

– lots of places to stay (hotels, B & Bs), fun family things to do

(great Zoo, Cave of the Winds, Cliff Dwellings, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls,

museums, etc), lots of restaurants, Pikes Peak.

I can provide transportation to/from airport, etc.

2. Ski resorts – skiing during ski season (ends

early April – pretty slushy/icy then – not a lot of fun), beautiful

in the summer, with hiking, etc

3. Woodland Park – easy access to Colorado

Springs (30 minutes) and ski resorts (90 mins to Breck and Keystone), can stay

@ local hotel (with pool), my house and relatives/friends homes if desired,

B & Bs even camping if you wanted to (in nearby state park w full facilities,

or in my yard (.6 acres, heavily treed, with wooden 2-story playset).

Sharps live here too, but I’ve not heard from them on this topic

yet. Can easily prepare meals @ my place, and I’m happy to make a

lot in advance (and Larry likes to cook). I can provide transportation to/from

airport, etc. I think this would be our most cost effective option.

Airfares are usually most expensive during ski season, but

you can get some good last minute deals, but they are not predictable.

Get better last minute deals from major airports. Summer airfares are not

as cheap as fall, but not as expensive as ski season. Cheapest is

probably during off season/mud season: late April thru early June. Major

carriers for Col Springs: Continental, American, NorthWest, United,

Delta. Major carriers at Denver:

Frontier, American, Continental, Delta, United, Southwest, and others.

Thoughts?

Hi -I'm easy on the details/location - as I'm driving up there anyway. As long as I don't have to buy chains to get through the Raton pass :) If people want to ski, I can come at that time, but late spring would probably be my choice. I figure we just want to have a place where we can successfully be together and work/play with this IMP stuff. We'll probably need to be able to use power point on a screen sometimes and have wireless for all the (us) geeks. And I'm happy to cook. How big is your house anyway?? Thanks for

For those of

you offering timeshares – awesome!

It sounds

like Vegas is not the deal/preference from your posts, so I’m assuming

were heading to Colorado

(darn…). Let’s discuss what time of year, and where.

Here are some options I’d suggest, pleas give me your feedback, and

suggestions.

Times of

Year:

1. Ski

season (I’m thinking Jan-March timeframe)

2.

‘Off Season’ for ski resorts (late April thru early June)

3.

Summer (June – Aug)

Locations:

1. Colorado Springs

2. Ski

resort like Summit Co with Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin,

Vail, Copper

3. Woodland Park (90 minute drive from

Breckenridge and Keystone, 20 miles out of Col Springs in the mountains)

Pros/Cons:

1. Ski

season - $$, but could stay in Woodland Park,

and go day ski for 1 day (families could go more), or maybe use some of the

timeshares people have graciously offered.

2. Off

season – cheaper rates @ ski resorts, Breck ($) and Vail ($$) have neat

towns for putzing, shopping, eating, but no skiing then. ‘mud

season’ (snow melting)

3.

Summer – great weather, kids out of school, lots of activities to do

1. Colorado Springs – lots of places to stay

(hotels, B & Bs), fun family things to do (great Zoo, Cave of the Winds,

Cliff Dwellings, Garden of the Gods, Seven

Falls, museums, etc), lots

of restaurants, Pikes Peak. I

can provide transportation to/from airport, etc.

2. Ski

resorts – skiing during ski season (ends early April – pretty

slushy/icy then – not a lot of fun), beautiful in the summer, with

hiking, etc

3.

Woodland Park – easy access to Colorado Springs (30 minutes) and ski

resorts (90 mins to Breck and Keystone), can stay @ local hotel (with pool), my

house and relatives/friends homes if desired, B & Bs even camping if you

wanted to (in nearby state park w full facilities, or in my yard (.6 acres,

heavily treed, with wooden 2-story playset). Sharps live here too, but

I’ve not heard from them on this topic yet. Can easily prepare

meals @ my place, and I’m happy to make a lot in advance (and Larry likes

to cook). I can provide transportation to/from airport, etc. I think this

would be our most cost effective option.

Airfares are

usually most expensive during ski season, but you can get some good last minute

deals, but they are not predictable. Get better last minute deals from

major airports. Summer airfares are not as cheap as fall, but not as

expensive as ski season. Cheapest is probably during off season/mud

season: late April thru early June. Major carriers for Col Springs:

Continental, American, NorthWest, United, Delta. Major carriers at Denver:

Frontier, American, Continental, Delta, United, Southwest, and others.

We are interested, but we are probably not financially able. Keep me in the loop with details, and we'll see. Airfares are usually most expensive during ski season, but you can get some good last minute deals, but they are not predictable. Get better last minute deals from major airports. Summer airfares are not as cheap as fall, but not as expensive as ski season. Cheapest is probably during off season/mud season: late April thru early June. Major carriers for Col Springs: Continental, American, NorthWest, United, Delta. Major carriers at Denver: Frontier, American, Continental, Delta, United, Southwest, and others. Thoughts? A.
