I think maybe it's just as well if we don't get too self-conscious

about our language and punctuation. Everyone is well-understood and

that's good enough for me.

Watch out, Lida!

In American we say OK or Okay.

'Oke' is a slur on poor migrants from Oklahoma to California during

the 'dust bowl' era of the 1920's

Ken,

You're write!

Actually, I'm in awe over the command of English that others on this

truly international forum possess. I can't thank them enough for

extending themselves to converse in the only language this poor

communicator knows even a little bit of.

Here's what dictionary.com has to say about OK:

OK is a quintessentially American term that has spread from English to

many other languages. Its origin was the subject of scholarly debate

for many years until Read showed that OK is based on a

joke of sorts. OK is first recorded in 1839 but was probably in

circulation before that date. During the 1830s there was a humoristic

fashion in Boston newspapers to reduce a phrase to initials and supply

an explanation in parentheses. Sometimes the abbreviations were

misspelled to add to the humor. OK was used in March 1839 as an

abbreviation for all correct, the joke being that neither the O nor

the K was correct. Originally spelled with periods, this term outlived

most similar abbreviations owing to its use in President Van

Buren's 1840 campaign for reelection. Because he was born in

Kinderhook, New York, Van Buren was nicknamed Old Kinderhook, and the

abbreviation proved eminently suitable for political slogans. That

same year, an editorial referring to the receipt of a pin with the

slogan O.K. had this comment: " frightful letters... significant of the

birth-place of Van Buren, old Kinderhook, as also the rallying

word of the Democracy of the late election, `all correct'.... Those

who wear them should bear in mind that it will require their most

strenuous exertions... to make all things O.K. "

Good Morning!

I think it is a combination of possessive traits AND joking around! However, some of it could be directed between two members, rather than having each of us read ALL the posts. The difficulty for some members is probably, knowing what is not of interest to ALL members.

Hello all,

I am sorry, but I can not relate to these kind of lenguage police items..

If these boards would be only for supercorrectenglishwriting persons, than I am totally not at the right place.

I can understand the purists in lenguage and do like it myself as well that lenguages are written in a correct way, but this is overkill, as far as I am concerned.

However, I don't think NTs deserve that. We deserve to be treated with respect, and we should be running the workplace. We know what's right. I have dealt with endless discrimination in the workplace since I applied for my first job at age 18. I didn't get my first job outside my own neighborhood until I was 21. I didn't get my first professional job until I was 30. And now, I'm thinking about giving up the rat race before I turn 40.

Yes, but how have I been treated by NTs? I try treating them with respect, and what do I get back from them? Insensitivity, bullying and stupidity. They don't know THING ONE about being sensitive toward one's needs, which makes me wonder why they are in the workplace in the first place. If I have always treated NTs with respect, and they don't give that respect back, then I won't treat them with respect ever again. They don't deserve it.

HOW could we do this? The 'To' in a reply goes to the whole group

only. I don't believe we share eMail addresses.

They can then just ignore the ones they don't want to read. I personally find linguistic suggestions very educational whether directed at me or other members. Just keep in mind that not everyone appreciates such helpfulness.

Rainbow,

When you click "reply" there should be a drop down option that asks you to select whether you want to send it to, "sender", or "all". If you don't make a selection, your response automatically goes to "all".

Not quite sure who the "her" is you're referring to here, but if it's Rainbow, then "she" is a he. Not easy to know from just the name. :-)

Check out my picture in the 'photos'. If I really appear to be a 'her'

let me know and I'll quickly 'update' (upload) a close up picture! As

Could I make a suggestion? This "tech support" stuff really doesn't have anything to do with this topic, so how about making a new one to address it in and share the instructions? That way if in future anyone has a problem like this they can find it much easier.
