Hi MT,

Tom here (Your Administrator.)

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum.

" NT " stands for " neurologically typical " which means just about anyone

who doesn't have AS or some other " disorder. " It should be noted that

NT is not used derogatorily. It's only used descriptively.

Let's try not to insult them. They CAN somemtimes be that way, but

they are not ALWAYS that way. For us to succeed in our lives we need to

try to understand neurologically typical people and relate to them on

friendly terms that are mutually beneficial for all.

Tom

" NT " is " Neurogically Typical " ...another term for insensitive, stupid

and uncaring.

Isn't that a little overly harsh, judging NTs as a group to be

insensitive, stupid, and uncaring. Members of minorities often feel

oppressed in various ways by the majority, who they feel fails to

recognize their individual worth. Then we often turn around and do the

same thing to the majority, brand them as a group, ignoring their

individuality. It's good to remember the Golden Rule, do unto others

as you would have them do unto you.

Sorry , But that is a stigma that nobody can affort to have towards anyone else not known to you personally.

Re: What the heck is an "NT"?

"NT" is "Neurogically Typical"...another term for insensitive, stupid and uncaring.

FAM Secret Society is a community based on respect, friendship, support and acceptance. Everyone is valued. Don't forget, there are links to other FAM sites on the Links page in the folder marked "Other FAM Sites."

To Mtndude, who writes,

>I see this everywhere on AS sites.

I'm glad that you asked right away! It took me a couple of frustrating

weeks to figure it out. It's the AS way of labeling 'us' and 'them'.

simply put: AS is 'us', NT's are 'them'.

Lida's far more accurate with:

>NT comes from 'Neuro Typical' and neuro typical is to indicate the way

in which most people's brains work. So, most people on this planet are

neuro typical, the so called NT's.

People with Asperger are not NeuroTypical persons. Their brain works in

a different way.

Hope this helps... It is just a simple way to quickly explain it to

you, but it certainly has more complicated and specific and interesting

details.

Her last sentence means it will take you the rest of your life to

figure it ALL out! LOL!

Mtndude,

I want to quickly follow up and concur with Tom. I defer to his way

with words and agree that it is 'difference' only that ALLOWS aspies to

be recognized as a 'group'. Neither is better, smarter, higher, or

lower! We are 'different' and VERY proud of it. There MAY be more of

'them' than 'us' but, it's important to keep in mind that everyone is

part of some minority.

My BEST friend's NT, when you insult her, you insult ME. If you

continue on like this I won't even want open your posts! You need to

recognize that we each become a 'mirror', a reflection if you will,

for/of/to each other. Dis-ing others will only come right back atcha!

Beware that what you give WILL be what you get. And remember: Ken to

I understand how you feel sometimes. Unfortunately there is a fairly deep chasm of understanding that is very difficult to bridge between AS & NT's. I have two NT and one AS childern and believe me I am still no closer to understanding the internal mindset of NT's even at close hand. NT woman friends have all indicated extreme frustration with me for my AS attributes and I am bemused to say the least about NT attributes

Be that as it is, I can also understand their frustration with us and our way of being.

The best we can hope for is to develop parallel thoughts and culture that give us something to fall back on in the wider world in which we exist and find the peace that we deserve. NT's have some very positive aspects too and coexist we have to.
