,

I stumbled upon this tidbit, and thought you might interested... I know

had reddish stools, and you were pretty sure her antibiotic

(Omnicef) was the cause, but the drug company hadn't put it in the

package insert. I was looking for something about it online, and there,

they have the prescribing info, and this appeared at the top of " adverse

events " .... glad they seem to have updated their info!

" There have been rare reports of reddish stools in patients who received

in Japan. The reddish formula is formation of a nonabsorbable complex

between Omnicef (or its breakdown products) and iron in the GI tract. "

Hope that helps... I know you weren't terribly concerned, but it's

always nice to have an explanation when something bizarre takes place!

It's a bit frustrating this wasn't available to parents or patients when

they got the drug, though, so they could read the info and be prepared,

rather than having to worry about it after it happens. I looked it up

on the Internet, and found the detail in about 45 seconds (and that

*wasn't* what I was looking for!), but nada in the package insert I have

in my hands. :-)

Take care,
