Guest guest
Thanks!!! This info was very helpful. Dora Dora~ I have seen some amazing things happen with EFT. Here is an article about EFT and neurofeedback ~ By Groesbeck BCIAC Fellow and Donna Bach ND Imagination can be visibly measured with neurofeedback equipment showing the brain waves that indicate that the person is accessing the subconscious mind. Over the last year we have had the opportunity to monitor beneficial brain wave changes while people are receiving EFT sessions; showing what is happening to the person’s brain waves in the moment in front of live audiences, first with Craig in San Francisco and Boston and then at an EFT conference in Ilkley, UK. We now have a good insight into exactly what is occurring when an EFT practitioner is using the “Movie Techniqueâ€, or another technique like Gwyneth Moss’s ‘Imagineering’. Brain wave changes mirror our own internal experience. For instance when you are in a day-dreamy state, with eyes partially open or fully closed, mentally drifting, and maybe seeing in your mind’s eye a past event or perhaps someplace you might like to be, you are most likely in what we call an “alpha brain wave†state. Now what are you really doing? You are using all of your senses to create an internal picture or image. We call this sensualization, creating a picture using all of your senses. This creates the alpha brain wave state and this is exactly what you do when you use the movie technique. You create a ‘mind’s eye movie’ of the issue you wish to address, and this creates the alpha brain wave pattern. Why is this important? Because it is this state that acts as the bridge to the specific underlying emotions that are stored in the deeper subconscious. We recognize them as Theta waves, and those are the important issues we are intending to resolve. This is why the Movie Technique or any of the techniques that use all of the senses are so powerful, they set up the brain wave energy state necessary to bring about the healing release we see with EFT. The EFT tapping then brings about a re-normalization of brain energy into healthier patterns which are visible in real time, showing a much faster beneficial change than typical neurofeedback or biofeedback sessions usually accomplish. We are now enthusiastically using EFT on all our clients while they are receiving their neurofeedback training, because it has proven to be the quickest way to achieve the benefits they desire! Guest guest
Liz, I too have looked into their program. They have a free download on their website for the EFT manual which includes the basic receipes. I wanted feedback to see if someone had used these techniques and had seen the results first hand before I invest in the CD's & certification program. Dora Hi Dora,I'm interested in this but haven't taken training at this point. My internist Dr.Ron Ruden is doing this in his office and also has written some articles theorizing about the possible neurological mechanisms that make it work: e.g.http://www.healingthemind.net/html/Why_tapping_works.htmlLiz On Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 7:40 AM, <katmandu1206aol> wrote: I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this type of intervention or using it in conjunction with their neurofeedback practice? Guest guest
I downloaded that a couple of years ago and never followed through. I would just use Ruden's basic " recipe " , and forget about " certification. " There are plenty of people doing various versions of this technique. You don't need anybody to " certify " you. Callahan seems to have a whole complicated thing going, perhaps to justify the " certification program. " I think with a lot of these things (dare I say neurofeedback too?) there's a basic idea which is interesting and has some scientific validity and can help a bunch of people, but then some particularly ambitious individuals build these huge, complicated systems that they try to sell you as better because they seem to be more specific -- But -- the problem is, the greater the specificity, the less scientific validity there is. Do you know what I mean? This is true in areas like nutritional supplements, too. It all begins to sound like phrenology or astrology (or faith healing) after awhile. Here's Dr. Ruden's " recipe " -- (he told me he went to Arizona to be trained by " the best " - is that Callahan? I don't know) (I'm quoting from Dr. Ruden's website now) Method Protocol is modified from Callahan. The protocol is simple, but important. Get a detailed history of the phobia, make sure that you understand what causes the physiological response. For example, an elevator phobia can come from claustrophobia, or loss of control or fear of moving chambers, etc. Then have individual focus on that which produces the greatest fear response. Let the individual generate a number from 0-10 based on the amount of distress experienced. Have the individual maximize the discomfort. Then tap (gently but firmly) using both forefinger and middle finger under the right eye 5x then over the end of the eyebrow, 5x then under the axilla about 4 inches below the deepest part of the axilla (the subject needs to be in just a shirt, have them remove sweaters or sweatshirts) 5x, then with both hands tap 5x 2-3 " below suprasternal notch. Then pick up the subjects right hand and begin tapping about 1 " behind the fourth and fifth knuckle on the back of the hand. Tap firmly and rapidly while you ask the individual to close then open their eyes and while keeping their head forward have them look down to the left look down to the right, rotate their eyes clockwise then counter clockwise, hum a tune and count to five slowly out loud. When this is done tap 5x on the side of the right hand about halfway between the wrist and base of little finger. Then repeat the cycle. The treatment should take about 2 minutes to complete. Then ask them to give you their distress level again. If it is still high, repeat the process after tapping 15x on the side of the right hand. If the individual is down to a 0 or 1 have them try to generate the phobic response and treat as above. Provide instructions on how the subject can do this for themselves. Have the person return within the next several days to assess progress. Repeat treatment but try to uncover any hidden fears or previous trauma impeding resolution. " Dr. Ruden says he helps lots of people with this, at $300 a session in his New York City office. I think we should try it with ourselves and families and friends and report back to each other! It seems that the hardest part is getting people to the original fear or craving state. That is essential, to put the brain in that panicky/needy state, where it is vulnerable to the effects of the treatment. You've inspired me, and now I want to start tapping! Guest guest
Dr. Ruden:http://www.yafferuden.com/html/rapid_removal_of_phobia.htmlandhttp://www.healingthemind.net/ Dr. Ruden... what is his first name? You can go to Emotion Freedom Technique website and obtain an inexpensive book that gives all the instructions. Also the website has many different uses/ways of employing EFT that one can read and use. Merlyn Hurd PhD.in NYC Re: EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques I downloaded that a couple of years ago and never followed through. Guest guest
The EFT website is full of wonderful free information and instruction. Craig is generous and open in his approach to all this. I have used it on myself (just did several tapping sessions yesterday) and family members with excellent results. Anxiety issues, negative emotions, etc. are cleared nicely and it only takes a couple minutes if that. I downloaded the printable instruction "book". Once I had "memorized" the process I passed it on to other family members. Their is a newsletter you can subscribe to for free that provides lots of "EFT at work" tutorials and testimonials. All in all a really nice adjunct to neurofeedback or as a "stand alone" technique. Tom Lennon Re: EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques I downloaded that a couple of years ago and never followed through. Guest guest
I don't know, this: " Tapping is a powerful acupressure technique that eliminates negativity. Using them together you can literally achieve anything you want. " is the kind of thing that makes me want to scream, or at least spend some time at quackwatch.com, the skeptical inquirer, etc. I try to remain open-minded about new theories and techniques, but when they get into this real hard-core medicine show we-can-cure-anything, you-can-have-anything snake oil nonsense I just have to turn the page. Think good thoughts and you can have anything. I guess the genocide victims in Sudan and Cambodia and Germany just didn't think the right thoughts, that was their problem! They had too much " negativity " ! (simplistic dichotomies, anyone?) What kind of thinkers actually swallow this worldview? It's one thing to explore a new modality, it's another to give up all of your reasoning abilities and become a consumer of total inanity. Mindful means NOT mindless. I really think it's important for people who are interested in practicing neurofeedback, which itself is in the beginning stages of wider acceptability, to refrain from associating ourselves with the most dopey of the New Agey presentations out there. It makes me sad because there IS potential for some of this stuff, but people who put up websites like tapping.com basically destroy any possibility of credibility for people who are honestly trying to explore new ideas. Anybody else have similar reactions to the tapping.com website?Liz or you can just go to www.tapping.com and watch the free video
Guest guest
I I've just noticed that Swingle has a section on EFT in his new book. I haven't read it yet so I can't give a digest. Mark
Guest guest
I hear you and believe me I am the first one to run away from crystal chanting, feather waving nonsense. I am a naturopathic doctor and my education was based on science not on a hoogy boogy black cauldron nonsense. I am always wary of things like this but the claims shouldn't be what your concerns are. (besides the fact that some claims are illegal to say). My attitude about tapping is don't knock it till you try it. I do not offer the information to all my clients just the ones that may be open minded enough to try it. I do not need a reputation of of being a fruit cake as I have worked too hard to be where I am today. I have to admit though that I have seen this tapping thing work on more than one ocassion even with people that are resistant. Although I have a tendancy to stick with logical, scientifically based modalities I have to admit there may be something to this tapping. So before you put it in the category of feather waving chicken chanting nonsense give it a try! Nobody said yo had to use it in your practice or tell everyone you meet. You can just keep it to yourself. Best of luck to you.
Guest guest
Thanks for your response. The link you sent about 3earthfriends.com was informative & interesting. I even took the free Ennegram personalilty test which I thought was fun!!! I am starting to use the EFT techniques on myself and I have to say that I do feel more centered. Dora http://www.3earthfriends.com/eftandbrainwaves.htmlObvious "over the top" claims aside, here is an article of interest of observed Brainwave changes during EFT sessions. I have a feeling that more studies will show a synergy between NF and EFT.I have used EFT on myself over the last year on several occasions to relieve a couple of moments of acute stress. It worked to my surprise! I have yet to study this fully but my interest has been piqued. I just tried the technique as outlined in this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gmz-b2sV0QI haven't a clue if this is the proper way to do EFT but...it worked for me and I find myself feeling very relaxed, awake and alert!
