Guest guest
Reggie, Its so strange that I didn't get your post about needing a lap top! ...but only saw Bruce's reply to you. Anyhow I'm in the same boat! Can I ask why you are looking for an Apple? I didn't know/remember that you were a MAC girl I've been looking between Toshiba and Dell (PC girl) and can't decide. I don't want used but also not looking for top of the line. Have you tried EBay? " ...become the change you envision." Guest guest
Folks, Having started with a TRS-80 Model III in 1988, I moved up to Commodore 64, 4 years later, then a 25 Mhz 486 later upgraded to a 100 Mhz Pentium, before I took a major leap over to Apple and saved up and bought a 266Mhz PowerBook G3 Series 2, in 1998, and three years later got a 500 Mhz Dual USB iBook which I have been using for the last 5 1/2 years (and for certain tasks I use an Acer Aspire). I hoping to get either a MacBook or a MacBook Pro in 2008, if not sometime sooner and when shopping I feel that we need to identify what features we want on our machines before we go looking for them (I mean this is not like buying an outfit [blouse, skirt, and shoes for that hot date! Shape, size and color are not going to be the most important features]. The most important thing we need to identify is what we are going to do most of the time with the computer and what we are going to do the rest of the time. Presently we are talking about laptops, but how much capability do you want of your laptop? I want to be able to do almost everything, download and produce movies, music, documents, video conference, produce money generating websites, everything! I want 80 or more Gigabytes (remember being satisfied with 200 Mb?), and a DVD Burner! How much speed to want it to be capable of? at least 2 Gigahertz (Dual Intel!). But maybe you would be happy with a machine running less than a gigahertz and storing less than 80 Gb just to surf the Internet, produce a few documents and store family pictures, I don't know! Guest guest
reggie, do you ever browse craigslist? I don't know where you live, are you in nyc? when I lived in chicago I used it a lot, seems nicer than ebay sometimes as you can always meet in person and check out the goods first. (i.e. laptop) apples, imho, are the best choice, hands down. I wondered if it would take me a long time to get used to the operating system, but I was navigating like a pro by the end of the week. I think the way apples store files and set up the hard drive is in a simple, straight forward fashion. And when you look at the inception of the computer, and how Bill Gates " stole " the idea, Apples (Linux operating system) is the original computer anyway. But I am far from a computer techie. also, the security of a mac is far superior to windows. The firewalls are set up different and we've had no problems with viruses. hth, Holly > > Anyone know of any inexpensive used laptops by apple? >

Guest guest
Bruce I have been saving my frequent flyer miles for over 5 years for a trip to Australia. If I go anywhere I have my friends pay with my credit card so I get the miles and they give me cash. I have no out of pocket expense for that. A laptop is another story, can't buy it with miles............. Thanks for the info. Guest guest
Hi Gareth, You expressed that all really well as to the reasons why to buy a Mac from Amazon. I happened to be checking out a forum that highlights good deals on things, www.fatwallet.com and they also mentioned some of the key points you brought up too about no sales tax, the apple store charges that, and also a good rebate from Amazon. I think I read it is something like $75.00 right now on some. ________________________________________ From: VeganMacrobiotics [mailto:VeganMacrobiotics ] On Behalf Of garethusa Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 11:06 AM To: VeganMacrobiotics Subject: Re: mac/apple laptop hi reggie, welcome to the mac/apple world....(assuming you don't have one now).... i am not sure if you came across www.macworld.com, www.applestore.com (they have a special refurb/sale page) as i believe these sites offer refurbs with some warranty to them vs purchasing a laptop from someone on craigslist for instance who wouldn't have a warranty to give you; unless if they purchased apple extended care. also, if you get miles (1 mile per $1 spent), then i recommending thinking about going to amazon.com to get your apple laptop. when purchasing from amazon.com, you get free shipping (and it's shipped in a very secure box in addition to the apple box), tax free, and there is always a rebate coupon (laptops usually get $100 or more rebate; where the desktops are $100 or less). you get the same warranty from apple as if you bought it at an apple store. i got my iBook G4 from amazon two years ago and am looking into getting a new iMac desktop with a bigger screen. so you get no tax, free shipping, a good rebate from amazon, and then your 1 mile per $1 spent so you can get your airplane ticket of your dreams!!!!! good luck! gareth > > Thanks dude.
