Guest guest
Ditto on Farm! 's Landing, Shakopee, is another favorite 1840-1890, with quite a few demonstrations and hands-on. We didn't bother seeing these until we moved away from MN, and so now, when we come back " home " , we get to play tourist. http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2PVQ_s_Landing_Shakopee_MN_USA<http:/\ /www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2PVQ_s_Landing_Shakopee_MN_USA>Sharon, NH *On Thu, Jul 9, 2009 at 9:54 AM, Anita Hagstrom **< godprovidesall@...>** wrote: * > > * > > * > > * > Alyssa, > > I would highly recommend Farm up in Elk River (I am still a " newbie " > to MN), so I don't know where that is in relation to where you are, but it > was a great field trip last spring. * >
Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions, you guys!! We may have to take a few day trips, looks like lots of fun stuff to do Kathy - yes, you emailed me, so no need to retype (which I know can be really frustrating to do!) Guest guest
How about going to Rush River Produce by Red Wing to pick blueberries? I see on their web site that they are opening on July 16th. It is a beautiful site and a fun activity. Just seeing 9 acres of blueberry plants is amazing. They do have kind of a farm there since they live right by the blueberry patch. Here is the web site.: activity.http://www.rushriverproduce.com/ > I'm trying to plan a fun day/afternoon trip, something that is family-friendly and related to traditional foods. Maybe a farm visit with a tour, but I have no idea where to go. Does anybody have any suggestions or other ideas? It would be me, my husband, and our 20 month old daughter, and maybe another family or two if any friends want to come along with us. > > Thanks! > Alyssa >
Guest guest
Found this post and didn't know if I ever sent it... (Things have been crazy busy around here lately!) Just thought I would post these suggestions to the entire group in case someone else wants in on the fun! I don't know that either of these would be the most fabulous, exciting family outing, but both would certainly make for a pleasant day in the country. You could go north or south from Woodbury. I have been to to Hastings to Sam Kedum's Nursery the last 2 days in a row with my kids and I am quite taken with the place and him! He is certified organic and has lots of things there-wild turkeys, chickens, friendly cats, strawberries to pick (this week only), raspberries, gooseberries, currants, sour cherries and veggies to buy, etc. Plus, you could stop at is Bailly Vineyard for a wine-tasting for the adults or just to buy some wine and have a picnic there. Take your own food or they should have a decent selection of cheeses, salami and olives there available for purchase. Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The other option would be to go north to Natura Farms and Poplar Hill Dairy Goat Farm (call ahead for raw milk) which are practically across the street from each other. As you go up Manning, there are also places to get honey and super blue-green algae. Land and Cattle has some beautiful rolling hills and you could stop to talk about getting some grass-fed, no antibiotics, beef or lamb in the fall. Hugo Animal Farm is also up there if you need to see more animals. If you go, please tell all of these people that Kathy of Optimal Health Connection sent you!
