Paxil withdrawal

Hi,

We took our daughter off paxil a year or two ago. She had a lot of

constipation from it, so we were going to switch her to lexapro. She

was 10 years old and on 20mg of paxil. We tapered down slowly and at

first it was not a problem. However, it got worse and worse. We had

a TERRIBLE time with it. (but at that time she had had no CBT or

ERP). It was very awful. There were some days she could not get to

school. Fortunately, lexapro is the quickest acting SSRI. We

started at 5mg, but pretty quickly upped it to 10mg because she was

so miserable Now we have been at 15mg of lexapro for sometime and it

is much better for our dd than paxil was. I felt that paxil helped

anxiety, but lexapro helps OCD more.

Anyway, we survived the change. We had to give her tranquilizers to

calm down during that time, and one night we had to give her 2

atavans. But they had the opposite effect! But we made it through.

I would stronly suggest to have support available for the just in

case scenarios.

If my dd ever wants to try going off meds on her own, I am going to

insist that it is done in the summer. You never know how each person

will react.
