Guest guest
Hi everyone, I was really caught out last night. I realised too late that our bath water smelt like the swimming baths - a sort of bleachy smell. Eddie's skin (he's profoundly sensitive) was not good at all when he got out. We'd never really thought about it before ... but when the water company are doing work or if there's an infection, they add chlorine. It's explained on the company webpages. I rang them this morning but, unfortunately, they can't warn customers ahead of time and can't tell you when it started or when it will stop. Reading the web pages last night we also found out that our water is fluoridated (we thought it wasn't - but it has been for a few years!!). We live in one of only 3 or 4 NorthWest areas to be treated .... and our drinking water filter doesn't efficiently extract this. Apparently, fluoride is a small molecule and trickier to remove. Tim is looking into filters. We'd appreciate any suggestions on good reasonably priced filters. We are looking for a whole house filter capable of removing chlorine and the usual things (but can live with fluoride to keep price down) and a drinking water filter that is capaable of removing fluoride. We wish we had checked our suppliers web pages before. (For the NorthWest you can type in your postcode on the link below - be sure to read the text. If there is fluoride, it is only mentioned in the text and is not in the list. Chlorine is variable - if you live nearer the treatment site or works you will have a higher concentration). http://www.unitedutilities.com/waterqualitycheck.htm Best wishes, Sandy
