Gunther says that the vinegar eels are kept out of our brews by tightly woven cloth covers (don't know where he stands on paper, I'm just saying I've noticed that everyone who has found the eels or fruit flies has been using either cheesecloth or paper). That they are like fruit flies in that they will find your brew and try to get in, but properly covered brews won't get them. They are not microscopic, but they are only about a 1/4-inch long. I learned what I know from G. , who actually answered a query on this list. Someone mentioned they found the vinegar eels in a bottle of Bragg's ACV. Remember, in less squeamish human cultures, the eels are considered normal in vinegar and I believe they are consumed by some ppl. They are killed by heat and can be filtered out. --V ~~~ There is no way to peace; peace is the way ~~~~ --A.J. Muste
Guest guest
The ones I see are very small, but visible to naked eye, and better seen with magnifying glass. Maybe they are 1/16 " long? If I shine a flashlight at the top of my brew, the appearance is " shimmery. " Then as my eyes gradually focus I can see the individual wigglies. Hope this helps... -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
