Guest guest
Saw this on another list. Any nurses have experience with amniotic fluid embolism? Gloria << Oh how awful!!! I'm so sorry. Did she survive? I'm so sorry. What was she induced with? Just pitocin? Why was she induced? What a scary thing.>> Re: AFE and induction No, she didn't survive and neither did her baby. Prostin gel only as they had not started Pitocin. She was being induced due to short stature and a GP who thought this would maximise her chances of birthing normally. She had an assisted birth with baby number one who now has no mother and no sibling. Just sad, that's all I can say. CR
Guest guest
Unfortunately, this is why OB is only a happy place to work about 85% of the time. Nothing can prevent an amniotic fluid embolism and it's not malpractice. No one knows why it happens or who is at high risk for it. Very sad when it does happen, though, because it's almost a 100% mortality.
