we dont get any extra pay at all for holidays..unless you volunteer and are flexi not regular staff. SO they obviously frown on you getting flexi staff to help you out! My kids are all still young..11 months, 2, 4, 5, 12 and 13 so I hate to miss it. I work 5a to 5p so no getting them up before i leave to work LOL...

[OBnurses] Re: Holiday

Our supplemental people by policy have to work a summer and a winter holiday..their choice but one who was hired because she's a friend and former co-worker of the DON has yet to do either. The major holidays it's opposite of what you did last year. I really don't care about any of them except Christmas as I'm the only one in my family that has kids and my mother can do Thanksgiving on the weekend after or x-mas on day or eve. (In-laws another story but if we miss that too bad) I have a 5 yr old so that's the only Santa kid my other 3 are 18,19 & 21 so they don't care what I do LOL. I've worked the last 3 new years eve and day I'd just as soon have the $$$. I have to work 7pm 7/4 that's ok too (after that I work tues and wed 7a-7p then I'm off for 2 weeks to the beach). Whoever works gets paid. If you trade to work it you get the 1 1/2x pay. I don't know how they can not pay you even if you did voulenteer check ! the policy. Our Holiday pay differential starts at 11pm and goes through 11pm (for example 11pm on 12/24 through 11pm 12/25) Everyone gets the holiday differential on top of shift and weekend differential.

This hospital is the only one I have ever worked at that has 2 holiday pay scales. Memorial day, July 4th and Labor Day get paid less then Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

My boys are grown, so I am pretty flexible as to when I work..Last year we did Xmas on 12/26 because they both had to work, opposite shifts from me of course..I worked Xmas eve, one worked xmas day and the other from noon-8pm, they work at theme parks)

The other Holiday that causes problems on our unit is Easter....lots of people like to be off the night before or that day, and of course it is always on the weekend.

I noticed you work 5a-5p for your 12 hrs shifts. I would really love that instead of 7-7 (I still would want the night shift) Does everyone on your unit do 5-5 or do you have some 7-7? We are a small unit so we would all have to work the same shift.

Personally I'd rather go back to 3-11pm, but none of our OB units even offer that anymore.

We all either work 5a to 5p or some work 7a to 5p, the night shift is all 5p to 5a. We do that so that when the inductions or sections come in (inducts at 6..first section patient gets here at 5:15) night shift doesnt have to admit them and then have day shift come in and take over. We do a lot of inductions...we are a medium size unit i guess..we have 15 LDRs and do about 325 to 350 births a month. I love it because i can get off work in time to make it to the kids football/baseball/basketball games and have my evenings instead of getting off at nearly the little ones bedtimes..
