Hi Donna,

There ARE no dumb questions. I remember having to have blood taken

just before my surgery but I don't remember if it was the day before

or the day of. The gal who did it was very experienced and did a

great job! I barely felt anything.

The drink you have to have before surgery is something to clean out

what might be left in your intestines. I didn't think it was that

bad. I got the cherry flavor and mixed it with 7-up. Took me about

45 minutes to down it all. I only got up once or twice during the

night to do my business but it's different for everyone. And don't

take it any later than noon or you'll still be heading for the

bathroom the morning of your surgery!

My surgery was the second one scheduled that day and I remember

having to be at the hospital by 7:00, but I don't remember what time

the actual surgery was. I think I was back in my room by about 2:30

though. My memory of that whole week is a little hazy. I hope I was

a little bit of help.

Donna...we love dumb questions...they are the ones we can answer!

lol.

Your experiences my vary as you are unique and each day is unique to

some degree, so just go with the flow. Having said that here are

some general idea of what to expect.

The pre-op appointment is no big deal...basically checking to see if

all things are in order, and things like your general health, blood

pressure and such are good to go. It's a last chance to ask

questions and so on. Your program fee must be paid at this time if

you haven't already. Usually a fairly fast office visit. You will

then go to the hospital and take care of registering and paying any

co-pays thay you may have.

Some people have been sent for additional tests..ekg, labs or such.

But this is unique to them. I didn't have to have additional blood

drawn or anything at this appointment.

I didn't think the Magic Cocktail was delish, but I didn't think it

was horrible either. I drank it straight from the bottle and just

guzzled it. Then used a pepsi chaser! Some mix it with some 7-up

but I say why ruin the 7-up lol. Anyway it is 1000000 times better

than having to drink a gallon of that other stuff.

Before you drink you Magic Cocktail...do anything you please....but

after you drink it be prepared to stay close to a restroom that you

don't mind taking a dump in. and dump in and dump in and dump

in......And you don't want to have to stand in line waiting to take

a dump...know what I mean. Some people have brought a roll of their

own t-paper to help ease butt sorness. You know the kind that has

aloe in it and is soft. This is another time that a peri-bottle

then just dabbing dry can help prevent a sore bottom. I would also

suggest that since your losing fluid thru your stool, you really

push the fluids this day. You don't want to go into surgery

dehydrated, it makes it harder to start the IV's...you want your

veins nice and plump.

Dr. K does surgeries in the morning. The first on is something like

7am and your required to be there at an un-godly hour like 5 am.

The second surgery can require you to be there at 7am and when you

actually go in depends on how long the first surgery takes. That is

another thing they do at the pre-op meeting and hospital reg. Your

told what time to be at the hospital and where you will go.

The normal stay for a ds with no complications is 4 days. Go in on

a Monday and you will more than likely go home Thursday or Friday.

Just think next Xmas your going to be asking for a whole new smaller

wardrobe!

Hugs

Jo
