Guest guest
nna: WOW--We need to talk about a whole lot of " Texas issues. Will you be in Indianapolis next week? Also, we need to set a date for a meeting-- Green and several others!! I'll provide the office. My best. Peacefully, Jeff Sell Autism Society of America 2nd Vice President Gov't Relations Committee -- Chairman www.autism-society.org <http://www.autism-society.org/> www.HittSell.com <http://www.hittpattersonsell.com/> JZSell@... Major changes with TX MHMR rumored for January I have, on very good authority from an inside source at MHMR, that the entire state funding for MHMR is about to change in January, 2003. Supposedly, they are creating a new waiver program for those individuals currently receiving MHMR services who are ALSO receiving Medicaid funding. CLASS recipients and MRLA recipients would not qualify, and no one without CURRENT Medicaid qualification under SSI would also not qualify. Therefore, it appears that anyone who is currently receiving MHMR services or funding (not In Home & Family Support, but other funding) who isn't already receiving Medicaid would no longer receive MHMR benefits. Since kids who have autism as a primary diagnosis (without MR) cannot receive Medicaid through MRLA, that would mean that unless your child already receives CLASS funding OR has SSI benefits, you would no longer be eligible for services through MHMR in Texas. I know that my children, who both have ASDs but not MR cannot qualify for Medicaid funding, have been on the CLASS waiting list for YEARS, and who cannot receive SSI due to our income, will apparently no longer receive services through MHMR in Texas if this plan goes into effect as planned. This is a very dangerous, and very discriminatory plan that MHMR has come up with. At a time when autism is skyrocketing, this will leave a substantial number of our children without access to any state services! We need to make our voices heard....PLEASE try to let state MHMR offices know that this plan is NOT acceptable unless it is amended to include ALL children with autism spectrum disorders. THIS is what Gov. 's lack of appointments to the Interagency Council for Autism and Other PDD's has produced...we have no input into anything because the committee no longer exists to even voice an opinion! nna

Guest guest
What should the rest of us do? Who do they mean by " MHMR officers? " It doesn't make any sense to make only those receiving SSI or Medicaid elligible for MHMR since it is supposed to be a LAST RESORT agency. Those receiving SSI or medicaid already get case management and money for speech, ot, and attendant care. Seems to me they might as well do away with MHMR then.
