Guest guest
Hi, Bev! Ultimately, I've discovered, people are going to believe pretty much what they want to believe, whether it's on the web, or handed down from on high on stone tablets... But, I empathize with, and cheer on, your efforts! :-) The Weston A. Price Foundation has a website -- http://www.westonaprice.org -- but they also have a print journal, " Wise Traditions, " and various other print resources, and can point you to some excellent ones. Ditto the Price-Pottenger Nutritional Foundation (http://www.price-pottenger.org/): Pottenger was the one whose cat studies first sounded the alert that raw milk, a " live " food, had more nutritional value than pasteurized milk, a " dead " food. The " classic " texts are Dr. Price's _Nutrition and Physical Degradation_, and _Pottenger's Cats: A Study in Nutrition_, by Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., MD. A couple of recent books I've found particularly helpful are _Nourishing Traditions_, by Sally Fallon, _The Untold Story of Milk_, by Ron Schmidt, ND, and _Keeping a Family Cow_, by Joann S. Grohman. Fallon's and Schmidt's books, in particular, do a wonderful job or summarizing (and citing) the relevant science. I've also heard that , MD's _The Milk Book_ is excellent (and I've seen quotes from it in other works), but haven't read it myself. Hope this helps! :-) Tom At 8:03 PM -0700 12/29/04, Beverly wrote: A grassfed beef seller is asking me for "reliable sources" as to the information on raw milk vs. pasteurized. I pulled up some info on the web and sent it to him, but not sure he's buying it because anyone can put anything on the web and call it fact. Does anyone have any idea on where I could get a hold of studies or more reliable info on the benefits of raw milk? I am not doing a very good job on my own here, and could use some help! Thanks! Guest guest
[bev] A grassfed beef seller is asking me for " reliable sources " as to the information on raw milk vs. pasteurized. [MAP] Just lend him your copy of _Untold_. Problem solved. Done. (As far as the other books Tom mentioned, due to various serious flaws in content and style, the book is **NOT** a good alternative for introducing someone to the topic, even though it's worth reading for knowledgeable folks with a dedicated interest in the topic once they've read the better stuff like _Untold_. NT contains virtually no content that could be used specifically to defend or promote raw milk.) Thanks for the elaborate/caution, Mike. > NT > contains virtually no content that could be used specifically to > defend or promote raw milk.) Largely true. I was thinking more in terms of its use as a resource in general -- there are a lot of works cited therein that might be applicable. I agree that _The Untold Story of Milk_ covers all the bases, and that in a very readable style. Say, is Dr. Ron still on this list? I seem to recall that he was, over the summer... he might have some other specifics to add. Tom
