I am in the process of writing to Parents, Parenting and Child Mag. I get all 3 of these and have never seen anything on this topic. Has anyone else? The magazines have been my main resource since we starting trying to get pregnant. I can't help but feel that if I had read about this earlier I could have done something to help before now!! Hunter's plagio is totally a result of him sleeping on his back with his head turned completely to the left (no tort or anything). If I had know then what I know now maybe repositioning would have worked more for us! In the "Ask Us" column, a Mom asked about her baby's flat head. Her doctor and family told her she was paranoid...... The pediatrician who responded agreed that she was overreacting!! Well, I ran out and bought that magazine right away so that I could write a letter to the editor. Unfortunately, I ended up with last months copy, so I'll have to go out and find it again! I think it would be fair to say that not ALL babies with flat heads need to be treated (so many factors, arg!), but as we all know, there are SO MANY that do need treatment. I think they should have responded with more of a "maybe, check with so and so doctor........" rather than a flat out NO!! I recently wrote a letter to Jane ey (of Dateline NBC fame) and strongly urged her to consider doing a plagio story on Dateline. I thought it would be great for a respected news magazine show to do a story. I think I made a good case but we'll see what happens. Those kinds of people and shows probably get gazillions of letters so I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a response. I'll be sure to let you know if I get one! I didn't hear any sort of response. Maybe if more of us do this, a producer will take notice. I just got called by a reporter from USA Today last night. She is doing an article on plagio for their web site and got my name from CT. I will be looking for it and let you all know when it goes online. I think the more publicity, the better. I feel as long as we keep talking about it the word will get out there. I actually don't think the US news article was that bad. Atleast it is being mentioned and the information is there. Also, about a month ago, there was a story about kids with helmets on 'Inside Edition', a nightly magazine-type show (I think its a national show). I don't remember them mentioning plagiocephaly by name; they didn't go into detail about the condition. I don't think it was very informational, it just kind of sensationalized the children wearing the helmets. Did anyone else see it? Did any of you who wrote to Rosie or Oprah attach photos or your little ones? Maybe that would catch their attention. I didn't like that last comment they made at the end when they said something like experts agree is it really necessary when the head will probably round out by themselves. Something to that extend. It's comments like those that make it harder and harder for us to get approval from our insurance companies, so I sent an e-mail to Inside Edition voicing my opinion. Hunter's plagio is totally a result of him sleeping on his back with his head turned completely to the left (no tort or anything).
