Guest guest
The doctor has recently done MORE blood test which all came back negative. Before giving our son the diagnoses of Aspergers, the neurologist did a series of blood tests (including on for Fragile X) to rule ANY medical condition out. I would bet this is what he/she was doing. As for the blood test for Aspergers, I would question the doctor on that one. If you have any questions, ask for them in writing so that you can take it to another doctor for a second opinion. Good luck! Guest guest
I live in the United Kingdom, I know your medicine in the States, or research is probably more advanced than ours, but I can safely say that over here there is no blood test for aspergers. I so wish that there was!!!, Louis was not diagnosed by a medical doctor, but by a pshycologist. It was louis teachers that first suspected. Good luck whatever the outcome, I know that the worst thing is not knowing, Katy Wicks michele e wrote: I didnt think there was a blood test for Aspergers. Guest guest
When Evan was dx'd with autism, he was given a blood test to rule out Fragile X He was dx' by the psychiatrist at the Regional Center. Recently he was given some more blood test to check on other things in his blood, they said for the future. In case there were changes. I sure would be wondering what this doctor was testing for since simple blood test is not going to show autism or aspergers. Betty - possibly Bipolar but undx'd, Effexor, Buspar, Omega 3'sgrandma and guardian to - 11 yo-- Bipolar/ADHD on Depakote, Adderall, Omega 3'sEvan - 8 yo nonverbal autism on 4 mg Risperdal, 1 mg Tenex - 6 - Bipolar/ADHD/PTSD on Tegretol, Adderall, clonidine .1 mg, Omega 3'smother to , their mom - Bipolar/ADHD on Topamaxwife to Bob - Effexor and too more many meds to remember
Guest guest
There is not a blood test for Asperger’s. Check out www.tonyattwood.com. , he has a list of diagnostic questions that you the parents can answer. I really like his book as well and he is a wonderful speaker, as is Carol Gray if you ever have a chance to see them. For Carol’s site look up Gray Center Social Understanding. Also, instead of getting on the bad side of this Dr., I would ask for a referral to a Neuro- Psychologist as they are the people who can really make a complete diagnosis and at the same time you will be truly be able to see your sons’ strengths as well as week areas. We were quite surprised at how our son placed in the ninety-ninth% for certain verbal abilities and knowledge, and in the fifth % for inferences. He takes things very literal and doesn’t know what to do if circumstances change. Anyway, you want the Neuro-Psy. And the school should pay, ours did. The testing is around $1700.00 Good Luck; let me know if you have any other questions. Gail
Guest guest
>>I live in the United Kingdom, I know your medicine in the States, or research is probably more advanced than ours, but I can safely say that over here there is no blood test for aspergers.<< *smiles* Doesn't matter where you live, there isn't a blood test for Aspergers - there can't be. Autism Spectrum Disorders are neurological disorders, you can't detect neurological disorders in the blood. Get a new doctor Alison, and report your current doctor to the AMA - if he's telling you that he's taking blood for an 'aspergers test' he's violating the informed consent law and needs to be written up. http://www.ama-assn.org
