Guest guest
Hi from Sue, I just dug up an old post about more Cautions.. also includes PKU..etc. see below ... Warning about ST. s Wort and some aminos and Bipolar Hi from Sue, I wanted to pass on this warning about the use of St. 's Wort and several amino acids. When I read (and used the EMpower plus at www.truehope.com for my younger son's anxiety, depression and ADD,) in Moyer's book = Nutrients Quiet the UNQuiet Brain ( a 4 generation Bi-polar Odyssey) ... had stated that his 20 something yr. old son had his FIRST bipolar manic episode after taking St. 's Wort for what he thought was depression. Later, as my son and I switched to Amino Acid therapy as detailed in The DIET CURE and sequel = The MOOD CURE by Ross. .. we saw the SAME contraindications about using St. 's Wort, etc. & bipolar. on page 200 of The Mood Cure it states: " If you have manic depression (bipolar disorder), do not use L- Glutamine, L-Tyrosine, SAM-e, of Saint-'s-Wort, high doses of fish or flax oil, or chromium without consulting with a psychiatrist or psychopharmacologist. All can trigger mania in some people. Even with an expert's okay, watch your reactions very carefully. Even 5-HTP and Tryptophan might cause problems at higher doses." Unfortunately my older son's ROOMMATE just experienced a manic episode last year (that resulted in a 2-3 week stay at a Psych hospital ) due to his intake of some aminos... I would strongly encourage you to check out the other contraindications on pages 199-200 in that same book by Ross. For example... She states..."If you have low blood pressure, avoid GABA, taurine, or niacin or use cautiously at low doses." More things are listed for lupus, migraine, liver impairment, overactive thyroid, schizophrenia , PKU, MAO, melanoma etc....... Even avoid licorice if your blood pressure is high.... Hope that helps, Sue
