Just listened to this and it is all good advice. However

unfortunately at the end of the school term I sat in meetings with

the school and had discussions regarding how things would go and be

when he returned to school in September. Teachers and others present

sat and nodded and all agreed and said such changes that would help

and benefit my son would be put in place and things that were working

would be contiuned in September. Well have you guessed yet? Of course

they haven't! Again people just sit around and agree and pay lip

service the things that had been working have been stopped the things

that supposedly were meant to have been implemented have not been and

things are not going well at all - of course I will be having a

meeting with the school very soon.

service the things that had been working have been stopped the things

that supposedly were meant to have been implemented have not been and

things are not going well at all - of course I will be having a

meeting with the school very soon. "

I understand your point of view, and I would say that many, many

parents experience similar frustrations, and many probably experience

worse ones. In writing that podcast, Elyse and I had to decide where

the middle ground was going to be as far as preparing for school

went.

Believe it or not, I am sure that most of the parents who listen to

it are going to say " Bah! All that stuff is too much work. Too much

effort. " And surely there will be others who will say " That's not

nearly enough effort to prepare my spectrumite for school. "

Our thinking was that the bare minimum which ought to be done is

fleshed out in the podcast, and yes, we assumed in this instance that

the school and other agencies were going to be perfectly cooperative.

Naturally many schools will not be, in which case, other parties,

such as witnesses, advocates, and people from the legal profession,

may have to come into play to get things moving. Those sorts of

things may be addressed in a subsequent podcast, although the next

four podcasts are already in production and will NOT address those

things.
