Guest guest
Immunologic and viral response were preserved after changing antiretroviral therapy. Fasting triglyceride and cholesterol levels decreased during therapy with atazanavir. Remarkably, preexisting buffalo hump and waist size, respectively, were reduced. MRI yielded a 30% reduction of subcutaneous adipose tissue after switching to ATV. ****** I am confused..so Reyataz increased lipoatrophy? How about visceral fat, where the problem really is in the abdomen? Jules That waist size and, more importantly, buffalo humps, were reduced is a good thing. I think the concern is whether the loss of sub-q fat may also affect peripheral limb or facial fat--hence 's question. Visceral fat related to lipomegaly would need to be reduced as well as sub-q. Also, one should not presume this is an effect of Taz, but rather an attenuation of a problem induced by other ARV. It's a rather annoying tactic, too, for drug companies to say--lookahere! Our drug does NOT cause this problem! Whee!! All well and good--unless a problem that it DOES cause is downplayed or ignored. In the case of Taz, I hope that the hyperbilirubinemia is not particularly relevant clinically, for example, as many seem to claim. And let us not be quick to say it is a miracle drug of utter harmlessness. I think caution is the order of the day when it comes to pronouncements from Pharma, who have a penchant for lying even as they are charging such lethally high prices and destabilizing our patchwork, miserable, so-called " healthcare " system.
