Guest guest
I checked and I think the price was higher. I've been looking around when I have found the name of one. There are some hydroponic ones on ebay but a grow light is not included, but they can be put outside. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: " sproutpeople " <sproutpeople > Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2012 6:00 PM Subject: Re: Re: Monday  I'm sorry, Carolyn. Guest guest
I don't have windows facing the south. I have a large one in LR facing west and north and some in sunroom facing east. So I think I am going to have to have the light though my sunroom has large windows and there is some space there if I rearrange furniture a bit. Bok choy sounds good to grow. I haven't used that much but I have been intrigued with it. I do like stirfry. I have used chicken in it most of the time mainly for the falvor and then added whateverf I had in house but also I love the yellow squash in a stir fry, makes it sweet and I like sweet things. I'll have to try yellow squash in my tomato tree planter. That should grow down from that well I think. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Friday, March 16, 2012 12:31 PM Subject: Re: Monday  I got an aerogarden. Its grow light is flourescent which emits mercury for sure just like others of its kind. Then i got another electric planter that has an aerator to pump oxygen only. This one has no light and must sit on south facing window. It is great, no need for light, and it has a timer when you want the water to spray the seeds. After i was successful with this, i put a table maybe 14 inches in width and 30 inches in length that sets right at the tip of the window will, so it is like an extension of the window. There i put my aerogarden without light and am now successfully growing bok choy. I am thinking of going to a fish store, buy an aerator small one used for fish tanks and then use it in a planter resembling an aerogarden. I am thinking of using dishwasher basket and just put plastic support for the coconut coir down it. I can also just use a sponge. > > > > > > It's always that way. Even in your sprouters. Guest guest
Isn't it funny that today is Friday and the heading still says Monday? Mel, Do you have a magnet? Magnetize a sewing needle. Very carefully float it on a dish of water. the needle will point to the north. Or, tell me what time of day your are sitting on your porch. Better, where is the sun at 7PM? At 7PM the sun will be due west. ew Re: Monday I think it's absolutely fascinating that you guys know what direction your windows are facing. I wouldn't know if my living room window is facing east or west, if my kitchen window is facing....duh!! wherever it's facing. I do remember that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so when I'm sitting on my front porch and look up (to the right), the sun is blaring down on me. So what is my living room window facing (same as porch), east, southeast, ???? lol Melody
Guest guest
 Ifg you are sitting on the front porch and the sun is coming up on the right, then that is south and you are facing east so your front windows out to the porch are on east side. Back of your house is west and opposite side of where sun comes up is north. I figured mine out like tht when I realized that the back of the house faces south. It was easy then but it is funny as it seems like it would be different. Sort of get turned around in here.  When you turn left and right you lose track of which direction it is. Can go tocar if it has compass in it or check the sun on rising or where it goes down andknow which direction. I used to have sliding doors in living room and in dining room which was opposite and they were north and south. I had a lovely hibiscus that we moved from front to back, north to south depending on whether we wanted it to bloom or to leaf out. It would put all its energy into beautiful flowers on the south side but would be close to being bare and then we had to move to the north side for the flowers to stop blooming and the leaves to bush out much more and then when it was very leafy, we moved back. We had a " corn plant " not a real corn and don't know the real name but it actually bloomed there and smelled like gardenias. I don't like the smell of gardenias, though most do.  A long stalk came out and there were flowers all along the stalk, white flowers. It wasw about 10 years old and never had bloomed before. It was just an ideal spot. I liked split level houses (bilevels) and had 3 of them and really liked them. Englewood, OH, Columbus, OH and then Boardman, OH. I'd love one here in FL. But housing is high. It has fallen, but then insurance is sky high and they are trying to raise it 40 percent or more this year. Can you imagine that? But I loved those houses, each oneof them. The Boardman one was a bit smaller but we had a big deck and then had a sunroom built onit and we fed birds in back and watched them from there. It was quite cold there in the winter though. It didn't have much counter space either. but we sure had some nice pots of flowers on the deck. I was feeling homesick for the house (not the area) when I saw someone's deck on youtube while looking at the containers and the bucket hydroponic planters. Oh well, I do like the weather here. I dont want to move north. It is nice to wear shorts year round except for a week or two. I wear Birkenstocks all year round. Of course I run the AC most of the time but have wallunits and just turn on where I am. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Friday, March 16, 2012 4:48 PM Subject: Re: Monday  I think it's absolutely fascinating that you guys know what direction your windows are facing. Guest guest
I don't think my laptop will do that at all. I know the ipad takes nice photos and can see them really well too. Someone from church takes photos of us women and puts them on a board so we can look and learn each other's names more easily. Many of us were transferred to a different building and this does help. My husband's laptop has a calculator but I am not sure this one does. My old computer had one on it. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Friday, March 16, 2012 10:38 PM Subject: Re: Monday  The ipad has EVERYTHING you can imagine on it! Guest guest
Ok, my bad. Put a drop of dish soap on the surface of the water. Gently drop the needle from about 1/4 of an inch. Guest guest
I've noticed that for people who live in large cities, directions are totally unimportant, they navigate by what street they are on. Gardeners know the directions because they wouldn't want tall crops planted on the south side because it would shade the rest of the garden, so they always know minimally what direction their garden in oriented in. Hikers and backpackers are also very cardinal direction oriented. I've found it difficult to tell other persons directions because they want the directions in terms of left/right and I'm using N_S_E_W. It can be quite confusing. Lee > I know for several reasons. First, I grew up here and I know the largest montain that I can see is Mt. San and its due north. Guest guest
I hate to get directions from someone who says turn right and I ask them if that is east or west or whatever and they have no idea. I've come from opposite directions from the way they go home and they don't realize that no exit is on the road going my direction, but after getting off and going back, I found the exit on the other side of the road as they always went home from that direction. So I always try to ask which direction as well as left or right since I may be coming from a different way or the exit may have to choose between 2 directions at the end and they getmixed up.  Believe it or not, men are just as bad about directions as women, though women tend to use left and right instead of the actual directions. I use both, go south on I-95 (that is a left turn onto 95 when you are coming from the east). Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Saturday, March 17, 2012 9:31 AM Subject: Re: Monday  Thanks very much. Guest guest
My daughter bought herself an ipod for Christmas or got it then. Her daughter 8 years old has been using it more than she does. She had it in her hands today as they headed to church and her mom said, " you don't need that as you aren't playing games. "  She said, " we do need it, it has the scriptures on it. "  So she took it. She took notes in church and Sunday school class on it. Kids.  My daughter told me that a woman at church told her that she got all 3 of her kids an ipad for Christmas as couldn't get for one and not the other 2. I don't know oldest kid but she has a 7 year old and a 3 year old as well. The 7 year old said he needed to learn how to call Mom on it. The 3 year old piped up saying, " I can show you how to do that. You press this button and then press this Mom button and then you press this button. "  Sure enough. She had it down. The 3 year old is the best one on it. Can you believe that? My smallest granddaughter, my daughter's child, was playing on the computer with kid's learning games but a bit more than that age. I have photos of her sleeping over the keyboard. She would fall asleep in the strangest positions, on the arm of a chair, upside down over a tricycle, and on the keyboard (no arms on the chair she was in and on a pillow to keep her higher). As you say, who knows what kids will be doing with them in another 10 or 20 years (if the earth lasts that long.   I used to be good at things but they don't even come with manuals anymore. There may be an instructional thing to download, but can't read that and fix something at the same time. i got my husband an Amazon Kindle fire for Christmas and recently bought him a book " AmazonKindle Fire for Dummies " . he says he needs the granddaughter here to teach him. If so, I need the Blu Ray hooked up, the remote adjusted so we need just one remote instead of 2, and the Ooma Telo hooked up so I can cut off the phone company. I have Skype on here and a Magic Jack (the simple one not the one that can do without a computer). I have a harder and harder time keeping up with the things though. A couple of my neighbors don't do computers at all and give me a hard time as I am on here far too much, but they come over when they want something off the computer though. I would prefer to send emails that call. I can do at my convenience.
