Guest guest
YIKES, Janet, glad you are all okay, I had thought you were quieter due to big kid issues and trying to get ready to move. You now must be more than happy to leave as soon as possible! So glad the house is not damaged, it would be kind of hard to sell!My best prayers and wishes for you that you can leave safely and soon! Love, Sheena Subject: Tornados and other such stuffTo: hepatitis_c_central Date: Monday, June 9, 2008, 7:19 AM Well if you have noticed I have been just a little bit distracted for a bit. Last Thursday evening we had a tornado come through our little town. Although they said they don't know if it was a tornado or not. It was we have pictures of it on our cell phones. Guess I will have to send that to the national weather service the dummies. It did a lot of damage to the area (we were lucky we only lost half of our mimosa tree in the front yard). The bad thing about the whole thing is that we were in the car driving home when it happened. , Alyssa(granddaughte r) and I. We could hear it roaring over our heads and stopped the car and said "Mom what do we do?". Then at the same time we both said "Pray". Our car was pitching to and throw. Then all of the sudden there was a break in the clouds and rain and we could see the stop sign and knew our house was only around the corner. floored it and we zoomed into our driveway. We were able to get into the house before the rain and wind pelted us. Then within just a matter of minutes it was over. We went out with all the neighbors to check the damage and by golly we were one of the lucky ones. I just lost half a tree. Others in this town lost a whole lot more. Although we were without electricity, we had our lives. There was lots of damage to the major street through town, it took the top floor off of one of the motels and people were in it. Luck would have it that no one was seriously hurt. A lot of business were heavily damaged, one of them being the one of the major employers in this town. Bar S foods. It tore the roof off of it, and destroyed the warehouse. Altus Air Force base was hit hard and a lot of damage there too. I haven't went out to the base because for most part it was closed off. They had no electricity at all. We got ours back on Sat. Morning. But they said it would be today before they could restore power to the Base. Yowie. Makes me glad that I am moving to San . LOL I know they have storms down there but still and all. Not like we have here. There we will have to contend with floods, heat and other things. But dang I have to think it will be better. LOL I kept in contact with my sister Jane, I know she was worried to death. She had called earlier in the day and told us that storms were headed our way. She was watching the weather channel. told her "Aunt Jane, Altus never gets too much weather." He was wrong!!! He had to tell his Aunt Jane that too. LOL I thought it was funny as heck. Well I am finishing packing this week, and if all goes well I will be moving this weekend. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Guest guest
You betca. I know they have tornados in Texas. But I don't think as bad as they do in Oklahoma. Besides we will be living in hill country and tornados don't like hills. When we lived in Broken Arrow, Okla. We lived at the bottom of a hill, sometimes there were tornados in the area, but they never got us. Love JanetSHARON CROSBY wrote: Now, THAT'S too close for comfort!!! Guest guest
Texas DOES have storms, especially eastern Texas, but I have never heard of the terrible storms there as Oklahoma and Kansas have. Guest guest
It seems like there's some danger anywhere we live. We get high wind storms here and with so many evergreens and very large trees, that's the danger here and flooding. We still have a temporary bridge between us and town, the county hasn't even started on the new one yet. The ritzy homes down below us get their roads fixed first. lol Sharon in NW Washington Knitting is...time and love made tangible.
