Guest guest
Friends,A young woman wrote to ask for some advice on how to speak with the director to the Midwife program. She told me I could copy this for you. Thank you, Fr. To give you an update I was recently accepted into Columbia for Midwifery, the catch is I am being asked to preform competencies that include contraception and referrals for abortions. I am pretty sure since talking with a lawyer that this will not be an issue because there is something called the " church amendment " which precludes institutions which take any type of gov. funds for medical research from forcing me to do either. The director can make my life difficult though, which I am a bit worried about. As far my background I am a doula and a lactation consultant, I will in May have a certificate from the NCBC in bioethics and am 3 classes short of my Masters in theology there. My undergrad was in maternal child health and basically I like to hang out with pregnant women, primarily undeserved and economically disadvantaged pregnant women which is why I'm pursuing midwifery so strongly. I want to make a difference in the world, I'd like to be an NFP only practitioner that provides poor women with comprehensive prenatal and antenatal care. -- Fr. R.
