Sorry hun, I don't count my calories. I am four months post-op and just figure

if I keep losing weight then something must be working.

================================

There is no " one size fits all " answer to this one. For one thing

the calorie needs of a Young, Male, who is 6' and weighs 500 pounds

with a common channel of 50, who exercises hard will have different

requirements than an old, 5', female, weighing 200 pounds, who does

not exercise with a 100 cm common channel. Starting to get the idea.

Another problem with a " calorie " answer...Eating fat comes with a

high calorie count but we don't absorb all of those calories...so

what percentage of the calories a person is eating comes from fat?

If you are following the " diet " of Protein first. (which means

MOSTLY protein. Followed by Veggies, then whole fruits Occasionally,

and drinking tons of water you should be losing weight. Avoiding

(limiting) sugars and simple carbs (white flour products like breads

and pasta's, potatos...) is the key.

I have never heard Dr. K mention a Calorie requirement or limit. It

is more about food choices and letting the smaller stomach do the

job of keeping us from going overboard. Some time between a year

and two years post-op most people can hold about 1/2 the volume of

food they did before surgery.

If your losing between 5 and 10 pounds a month on average your

considered to be doing well at 4 months post-op.

Eat protein, avoid simple carbs/sugar and exercise...that is truely

the best you can do...then what will be, will be...and you will have

done your part.

Hugs

Thanks Jo!! Yeah I figured everyone was different. It just seems

everytime I find something I like that's high in protein its way too

high in fat and calories. But since we don't absorb most of the fat

and not all the calories I guess it's ok? :) I've lost nearly 50%

of my excess weight, hopefully will be at 50% on Tuesday!! Last

time I saw Dr. K at 6 weeks post op he seemed a little disappointed

with my loss. I had lost about 30 lbs at the time. I dont want to

disappoint again.

I'm following everything you mentioned, so there's not much more I

can do. I guess I could exercise a bit more though ;)

Thanks again Jo!! Can't wait to see you again on Tuesday :)

Hi ,

I had my surgery July 11th, I believe. I feel that the surgery was a huge

success for me. I no longer take oral meds or insulin for my diabetes and my

blood sugars usually are under 150. For a person without diabetes the blood

sugars run between 80 and 120. I can eat pretty good sometimes. I focus a lot

on the proteins but I eat carbs too. I am not on a diet. I eat what I want but

I understand that some foods have a negative consequence for me " bathroom

issues " so I stay away from them for the most part.

The only part that I don't like now is the " bathroom issues " . I hate waking up

and having to stay by a bathroom for one or two hours in the morning. It is

really frustrating to me because I want to be able to wake up and take my

daughter to school and do my thing. But as of now, I go back home and go to the

bathroom, then I can do what I want. This is going to be a problem next

semester when I need to take her to school and then go to school myself. But,

hopefully I can do a few online courses. That would help resolve the problem.

Does anyone know if I will stop having to go to the bathroom every morning for

one or two hours, lol? Anyhow, if this is something I have to put up with and

work around, it will still have been worth it. I started at 253 and now am down

to 203. I think that 50 pounds in 4 months is awesome for me. I can't wait to

be under 150 YAY!! But first I have to drop under 200, lol.

How has your weight loss been? Are you having to go to the bathroom in the

morning for one or two hours? How do you deal with it, if you do? What part of

the surgery do you like and dislike?

Dr K seemed to be a little disappointed in my weight loss as well. I saw him at

3 months post-op and had lost 35 pounds. He didn't say he was disappointed but

he mentioned that because of the severity of my diabetes before surgery that I

would lose weight slower and he suggested I put more fats in my diet.

However, I am thrilled at my weight loss. I have lost 50 pounds now in 4 months

and to me, that is good. I am losing it slowly but surely and that's all that

counts for me. I started at 253 so I don't think I should lose it fast. If I

get below 150, I will be so thrilled.

Try not to worry about the progress of your weight loss. As long as it keeps

coming off, isn't that what matters? Take care.

Hi ,

There isn't a set amount. It's different for everyone. The most

important thing is getting in your protein, not worrying about how

many calories you're getting. At three years out, I sometimes eat

only 2,000 calories a day but most days I eat 3,000 a day. What I

worry about is getting in all my supplements and my protein. I

don't remember reading about or hearing any particular amount of

calories we should be eating per day at any certain time in our

recovery.

What I don't understand is....

110 calories - Gin & Tonic - standard size

108 calories - glass of white wine

70 calories - bourbon & coke

How can a bourbon & coke be less than white wine... maybe I will go back

to my friend Jim!
