Guest guest
That is right. When I went to the neroligist she asked me how I got Hep C and I told her I wasnt sure but probbaly from my tattoes ( I didnt want to tell her I was an IV drug user) and she said wow I didnt know you could get it from tattoes. That blew me away that she didnt know that. I wonder what else she doesnt know. She looked kind of young for a DOC. Deb wrote: Honey - Thank You so much for reading that replying and asking very important health questions and issues for us all. The answer is - YES !!!!!!!!!!! I have or cleared HCV or have Liver Disease stage/grade - whatever it is by last bx and date of bx. Telling others and medical staff that you have or had HCV is for their safety and your medical safety. Telling I have HCV/Liver Disease the stage and grade is also for our safety and health. All treating Dr's - Dentist's any medical person must have that info and our complete medical history along with all treating Dr's and contact phone #'s to insure our proper medical care - tx's - rx's - procedures are HCV/Liver Disease friendly as possible with if needed coordination of our Hep/Liver Disease medical care - tx - rx's and with a consult to our Hep Dr's or PCP following us for HCV/Liver Disease. If in doubt I demand a consult and ok with and from my Hep Dr before any medical care. I ask do you have HCV/Liver Disease practicing medical experience and especially me being post liver transplant on 2 high dose anti-rejection meds with HCV/Liver Disease progression. Also any invasive procedures even slight ones dental cleanings need a consult to our Hep Dr's or a Dentist familiar with HCV/Liver Disease to ensure we do not need any pre-work up labs ptt/pt clotting times we are clotting enough and fast enough or need to be on a broad range spectrum antibiotic by mouth. For some people and their stage/grade health many days prior to a procedure rx alone or on added IV antibiotics for procedures - surgeries and after care because of weakened stressed us and our immune systems - all systems - liver and proper healing processes. We tend to not fight off infections very well or receive a worse form of infections some can be very serious even sepsis and more prone to respiratory infections and with full anesthesia depending on our total health. Honey you would be amazed at how many different MD's and Specialists didn't even know HCV returns with a revenge after a clean transplant or they are not very familiar with HCV/Liver Disease at all. It is still only glanced over in Med Schools unless after graduation a Dr goes back and specializes in it accredited or it's not their specialty they get us and hopefully train themselves. We educate our other Dr's and Specialists and along with our treating Hepatologists. I recently just had a spinal tap and had 5 different types of Specialists 1 was Infection Disease Specialists in case tap grew anything out. She was stumped and with a glazed look on her face that HCV returns universally after a clean transplant. Her 1st ? What is your viral load ? I have know idea my Hep Dr doesn't check for it.. She was horrified - Why and how does he keep a check on you ???? Because it makes no difference now at my stage. We know I'm HCV+ it doesn't relate to the severity of my HCV/Liver Disease can't medically do tx again and a key factor in dx'ing - flare-ups and tx results not severity of disease. I have full monthly labs run and with Prograf strong toxic anti-rejection med for keeping safety non-toxic levels. We take it monthly from there and bx's if needed or appropriate medical care. I have routine return appt's every 3 months or sooner if needed medically. We sat and talked for a long time she took notes. Another 1 down and educated about HCV/Liver Disease and unbelievably an Infectious Disease Specialists. I have many dx's and specialists and found the same with most other and even high med Specialists. Some are brilliant only in their own chosen medical fields and expertise. Ok just a few that came to mind. Save The Livers !!!!!!!!!!!! All The Best. Deb Re: Re: a question - and All Deb ~~ Interesting that you should post this. I have been wondering since I have Hep C Virus and no other liver diagnosis beyond Stage 1/Grade 2 -- if I am to answer a question like "Do you have liver disease?" how would I respond? Thanks Deb <posttransplant> wrote: Yes because people confuse the 2 diseases having Hep C Virus disease and than acquired HCV related Liver Disease or with additional other forms of other liver diseases also - alcoholic liver disease - non-alcoholic fatty liver disease - liver toxicity disease from overdoses toxins - auto-immune liver disease so on .... .
