Guest guest
I’m going to be late for work if I respond this morning. Will get back to you tonight. The 64,000 thousand dollar question Why do only 50 some odd percent of the geno type 1 HCV cases respond to Peg interferon/Ribavirin? What could be the reasons that some people respond and others do not respond to therapy? Are there epidemiological studies that have explored Peg interferon/ Ribavirin combo therapy success rates? Guest guest
I didn’t get back to the computer Thursday night & was sick yesterday. Here’s my answer, as promised, although late. There are SO many factors that effect the outcome of tx and I don’t think they know why. Statistically, genotype 1 doesn’t respond as well as 2 or 3, women respond better than men, whites better than blacks (I don’t know about Asians), younger people better than older people, people catching it earlier rather than later, lower viral load better than higher. But there are plenty of people in all of those “less likely” groups that DO respond. There are also personal factors such as compliance – do you take your pills every day or forget? Do you skip shots? What’s your attitude like? Have you decided it’s going to work for you? Granted, a positive, kick-dragon-ass attitude doesn’t guaranty success, but it sure helps!
