Guest guest
Has this website ever collated a list of methods on how to market NFP to the general public? I am certain everyone has their own opinion and their own methods, some of which have worked and some of which have not. I was wondering if everyone sent in their successes on this site, I would be willing to collate them in one document and send them back to everyone. Thanks. There HAS to be a way to let this info out in a better manner. Les Ruppersberger Use of NFP in the United States Hello NFP group FYI: The following data is from the CDC and Cycle 6 of the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) – conducted by the CDC through the University of Michigan every 7 years or so. Natural family planning NOTE: In "Natural family planning or safe period by temperature or cervical mucus test," a woman checks the temperature and consistency of her cervical mucus to determine her fertile days and abstains from intercourse on those fertile days. Natural family planning use among women 15-44 years of age who have ever had intercourse, 2002: Percent of women who have ever used natural family planning: 3.5% Percent of women currently using natural family planning: 0.2% Percent of Catholic women using natural family planning: 0.4% This data applies to all women in the US of reproductive age 14-44. The third open bullet point is from my analysis of the NSFG data set. The actual number of women with current use is around 124,000. See: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nsfg/abc_list_n.htm#natural Cycle 7 of the NSFG is supposed to be coming out before the end of the year – so we can see if these numbers will change at all. The percentage of ever use has ranged from around 3-4% since the early 1980s. There is a lot of other data on this Web site that might be of interest to NFP teachers, e.g., cohabitation rates, pregnancy rates, sexual activity, etc. Data and figures that you should be aware of and can quote. I wish you all well with promoting NFP. J. Fehring, PhD, RN Professor Marquette University
Guest guest
I don't know how this fits with other peoples' experience, but over the last five years our own entire base of contacts for NFP teaching has come from two sources: - Direct word of mouth referral - Our website. One area where I think more could be done - internationally, not just for the USA - would be in the provision of good-quality and well thought out general NFP information on the Internet, referring to individual organizations/teachers at the point at which a user already has enough information to know that s/he wants to know more. I have a site - http://nfpsite.aldred.org - which has attracted a good deal of traffic in the past, but it needs a facelift, and, more importantly, collaborators to make it more authoritative and more up to date on contacts, related materials etc. I have sometimes wondered whether the community around this mailing list would be interested in collaborating in such a site - building it into something which provided not only basic information but also a repository of research findings, information on particular conditions etc, to lift it somewhat up the league. So would people be interested? -- Aldred

Guest guest
Hi , Lots of hours were put into creating a database of NFP related research that can be found at http://www.omsoul.com/search.php. this was completed a few years ago, so anything more recent would not be included. It would be great if the database could be more widely used. Any suggestions.? Guest guest
I’ve been following this discussion with interest. I live in one of those parishes where the priests mandate a full NFP course by our engaged couples, and we prepare about 10% of all the couples of our annual diocesan marriage total because we have the Univ of VA campus ministry, including jurisdiction over those who want to marry at the UVa chapel, whether from our parish or not. We offer classes in STM and Creighton Fertility Care. Along with our parish, we get some non-Catholic couples from the area, and couples preparing for marriage from a city about 40 miles away with a requirement for preparation but no teachers. Couples have been variably receptive, but our philosophy is that we’re planting the seeds and maybe they’ll bear fruit in the future if not now. Honestly, some of our young couples are incredibly receptive to the joys of family, and there are lots of babies being baptized here. And actually many of the non-Catholic couples who take our class have converted to the Catholic faith when they see how beautiful these teachings are! When the decision was made to mandate the classes for our parish, our pastor told us that he felt in good conscience he couldn’t witness these marriages unless we had given these couples the Truth about what the Church teaches, and the means to work with it. I’m not saying it’s always been easy for us to grow to this point, but the Grace has been there. We’re Dominicans here (I’m in the Laity), so it’s all about Truth! I could use some good web links for our parish webpage where couples go to learn about the classes and register. I’m keeping my eyes open as this develops. God Bless, D. Guest guest
Maybe the need is not so much for one universal website, but for everyone to link generously to other websites. While our website only offers contact info for California teachers, physicians, and clergy, it has a feature that is very popular and well utilized globally (by English speaking). We have an Ask the Experts feature, with over 800 responses posted to questions we have received over the internet. Responses are written by CANFP experts-----teachers, physicians, clergy, etc. It attracts a great number of people to our site who are totally unfamiliar with NFP, and is also a great resource for NFP clients, doing research on issues they may be experiencing, and professionals, looking for other opinions. Guest guest
I have sent e-mails out to those organizations whose websites are currently listed on my website. (Except Aldred, because I couldn’t find the contact link on your website – please respond to this e-mail ). I didn’t find contact us links found on the OMSoul website, or My Fertility Cycle websit, but I found those e-mail addresses in the NFP discussion board. The e-mail says, I am requesting permission to put a link to your website on my website www.healthvista.net in the Natural Family Planning webpage that lists NFP resources. Your website is also referenced in the Natural Family Planning: A Healthy Alternative Powerpoint. Thanks in advance for letting me know if this is OK with you.
