Guest guest
this is sad but it is hard for those in USA to know guidelines of Canada things and laws in such suits. Sondra
Guest guest
--- Hi I don't know if I'll be much help but my daughter is going to be on the waiting list for IBI here in Sudbury, Ontario. She hasn't been officially diagnosed yet with Autism but the Pediatrician and the psychologist both agree that she is Autistic , just has to be on paper. Anyways, I have been told that IBI can really help the child and I know how hard it is to be on waiting lists. I hope everything works out for you and I hope you can get her in the program. Guest guest
.Hi I am in Alberta and 2 of my children did IBI for 2 years. It really has been a godsend to us.The improvement in speech alone has been more than 200%.We feel as parents much better able to cope and have our children thrive. The sensory integration helps really make a difference and we are thrilled with the progress of the children.Considering the cost of IbI(here30 -50 thousand) a year having it covered by the government is fantastic. Our children are autistic and will always be but every time you see them learning and happy makes everything Worth it. Guest guest
Hi I am a single Dad in the US. My daughter is 12 now, but she was 4 at the time of the divorce. If your IBI is the the same/similar to our ABA then it is definitely worth fighting for. My daughter has been in ABA programs since 3 years old and has made a world of difference, not that I still don't have some major problems, but I can imagine how bad it could have been if she didn't get help as early as she did. You post leaves a lot unsaid and the laws I'm sure are different here. Although my kids live with me, " technically " I have joint custody with their mother. My papers state that I have complete control over day to day activities, but require her approval for major life issues. Are you actually divorced and do you have papers that clearly spell out who is responsible for what? You don't say why you have the children - problem with the mother? Not to intrude, but it can make a differnce in court if it comes to that. Our courts are very sympathetic to the mothers, but will listen if there are extreme circumstances that could affect the welfare of the child. Can she stop you outright or does she have to take you to court? If she can't stop you outright then go ahead with your plans. The mother then would have to prove that this type of program would be harmful to her and I doubt if she can do that. If she can stop you right away by not signing approval papers then go to the court to see if you can a judge to allow the program until a full hearing can be held especially if you have doctor's notes. I'm sure that she won't be able to get any papers from doctor's or teachers saying that the program will harm your daughter. You can contact me on or off list if I can be of any further help. I hope that I don't upset any one on this list - I try to tread very lightly here as the list is mostly women, a few Dad's and even fewer single Dad's with custody. How many single Dad's are there on this list? I hope that every one is open enough to acknowledge that considering all we hear about deadbeat dads, that there are some deadbeat Moms too!
