Guest guest
Welcome, Beth! Glad to have you join our group! I am glad you are willing to continue to try to lose weight without gastric bypass FIRST. I just heard a shocking news bit last week that they are now considering the surgery to be about a two year fix for many people--in other words, they lose the weight, but in about two years begin to gain it back if they have not dealt with the underlying issues that got them obese in the first place. Only you can make the choice if the surgery is right for you, but you are wise to try whatever you can first before surrendering to the surgery...and even if you decide to get it, still work on your issues with food, so you don't fall prey to the statistics. I've learned so much with 's help, and have absolutely quit calling myself negative names and thinking of myself as obese. I am on a journey to slimness and health. 14 lbs down and continuing to make the right choices one day, one choice, at a time. Best of luck to you, and feel free to share here, or ask questions, share tips, etc.
Guest guest
Thanks to you and lloydcat for the warm welcome! To be honest, my reason for wanting to go the diet route before surgery is strictly a fear thing. I've had one surgery in my life, when I had to have my gall bladder removed, and I has such a horrible reaction to the anesthesia, that I'm afraid to go through another surgery. I was never one to go to the doctor, nor one for taking pills, so having all this surgery information dumped on me at once is very scary! I know I have a lot of food issues to work through before I can figure out how to really get them under control. And with the added factor of PCOS, it's not going to be easy, but I'm going to do my best. I've been overweight my whole life. I was an overweight child, teen and now adult. It wasn't until I was 25 that I was actually diagnosed with PCOS. Until then, all my female issues were solely blamed on me being fat. If I'd lose weight, my doctors told me, I'd be fine. The problem was, they were ignoring what I was telling them, which was that there had to be another problem. I had plenty of friends that were overweight and didn't have the issues I was having. I changed doctors countless times until I finally found one that would listen and found the PCOS that I had had for years and had gone untreated. Now, ten years after that diagnosis, I'm finally in a financial and mental position, complete with health care benefits, to get treatment. And, part of that treatment is to start on the road toward gastric bypass. I'm not happy about it, but 20+ years of dieting says to doctors that there is no alternative. I don't believe that's true, and I'm determined that through the help of the nutritionist, as well as 's podcasts, that the seven month waiting period will be my time to reprogram myself and I will be able to look at the doctor and say, " No, I think I want to continue with the nutritionist for a while longer before I sign up for the surgery. " Sorry to be so long-winded. Hope I didn't bore anyone! For those who made it to the end of the post, thanks for listening! > > Welcome, Beth! Glad to have you join our group! Guest guest
Beth, thank you for sharing the details. I know it's difficult, but this really is a safe place to do so. We all have issues, and that is why we are here. Knowing more about you helps others help you. I think you are being very smart in how you are handling things. And in seven months, if you really focus on making changes and getting to the bottom of your issues, you should be seeing real changes! You might have noticed, if you have read back awhile, that many of us have discovered the benefits of listening to the podcasts several times, and also listening to them as we are in a relaxed state--like lying in bed preparing for sleep. I personally had a major breakthrough doing the latter. I hope the tips help, and know that we are here for you, and so is !!
