, i just have one thing to say with your post that i briefly went

over...

IF YOU feel like she should be held back from starting kindergarten, then

hold her back.

i wanted to hold my daughter back and repeat K. school said no... she

doesnt need it, shes ready to move on. well, now she is behind and it is going

to

be harder to hold her back because she is more aware (with the 'friends' she

has in her class) of other children moving on. and, because she would be bored

with repeating the same grade in the same atmosphere. (now we are trying to

get her into a special class where, hopefully, she will repeat 4th grade but at

least it will be in a different atmosphere so i hope it wont be boring for

her)

I should have gone with my heart and did the right thing then.

I dont know what the whole situation is with your daughter so i cant say what

would be best in your case but in ours... we should have NOT listened to

school and had her held back.

My mother in law told me once that 'she was going to be pushed through

school'

i took offense to that because, to me, i thought that meant that I was going

to let that happen (and there was no way in the world i was going to let it

happen!)

she magically passed 1st grade... she magically passed 2nd grade... magically

passed 3rd grade... now she is in 4th and crashing and burning.

(looks like i have let it happen after all)

Barb did not let it of happen but for many with ASD when school work goes

from concrete and literal to abstract many of us crash without the right

supports.
